I am a retired partner of Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP, an international law firm. My practice included a broad range of financial matters, such as international debt and equity issues, derivative products, bank lending, project finance, sovereign debt restructuring, repackaging of LDC debt, and letters of credit. I also focused on international corporate transactions, particularly privatizations, cross-border investments, acquisitions and joint ventures. I began work with the firm in 1964, became a partner in 1973, became Senior Counsel in 2000, and became fully retired at the end of 2003. I was based in the Brussels office of Cleary Gottlieb from 1968 to 1971 and was resident in Rio de Janeiro from 1973 to 1978.
Since retiring as an active partner in Cleary Gottlieb, I have served in various capacities at Sewanee: The University of the South: as the alumni officer in charge of planned giving for six years, as a Trustee, as a member of the Board of Regents, and now as a member of the Board's Invest
