Joshua Busman is a Ph.D. candidate (ABD) in musicology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a BM in music theory and composition from Middle Tennessee State University as well as an MA in musicology from UNC-CH. His dissertation research deals with music in contemporary American evangelicalism using phenomenology and poststructural analyses. In addition to working on his dissertation, Joshua also serves as musical director for the Gamelan Nyai Saraswati, a central Javanese music ensemble based at UNC-CH.
Alongside his academic interests, Joshua works as Arts Coordinator for Emmaus Way Church in Durham, as well as working with Durham CAN, a multi-racial, multi-faith, grassroots political organization in Durham County. When he isn’t reading, writing, or rehearsing, Joshua enjoys hanging out with his wonderful wife and hound dog at their home in the Bull City.
