born in san antonio
as a kid, heard classical music, nat king cole, frank sinatra, dean martin, then 50's rock n roll, then 60's rock (and frank zappa!!). and, of course, mexican trios, mariachis, and conjuntos.
then off to university of tx at austin to learn about life and hear cosmic cowboy music, willie nelson (in a 30-50 person bar/juke joint), blues, east texas polka, acid rock, dr. john, frank zappa [at armadillo world headquarters), and more classical music.
moved to dallas for first career job and heard more jazz, blues, classical [esp. chamber music], tx music (guy clark, et. al.).
met my future wife, who introduced me to latin music - trios romanticos, salsa, rumba, cumbia, merengue, etc.
so, a melting pot of sounds, but esp. those w/ "oooomphhh!" and/or a beat that moves the bones and shakes up the brain. not so much the hip hop or raucous rock so prevalent these days.
so, when everything else gets crazy, listen to the music!!!
