Stress releasing
Saw this concert back in the day.. so epic.. what an experience.
Love this song. Wish I could hear it live
I'm gonna play this at my nephews funeral as he asked if he dies before I do!
I'm 13 and my parents love pink Floyd I think I was born in the wrong generation.
I sure love this song!! Saw the concert on this tour & was blown away!!!
I'm actually a rhino with 9 kidneys
Under the Property Tax Independence Act I can afford to buy Pink Floyd DVDs !!
Love the message too.
Saw PF when they started touring again right after this album came out. For some obscure reason they picked my hometown of Ottawa, Canada to start their tour. Most. Amazing. Concert. Ever. Due to that concert new bylaws went into effect providing noise level limitations and closure times for outdoor concerts. You could hear the concert in Kanata that night. PF is one of those bands that stays with you for decades.
This song haunts me.9
Glad the 1 & only time I ever saw these guys, The Division Bell tour, they did this tune! ...right before they took a 20 min. break before coming back to finish the show, lol. I guess the song took everything outta them.

I cried when I listened to this. For the 100th time.
This song gave me goosebumps
Listening with volume all the way up= flying on clouds and watching giant butterflies riding dolphins in the sky.
Maybe one day we won't turn away.
Won tickets in 72 -73? Also in 90 something in phx best memories ever!!!

Such powerful lyrics accompanied by amazing music.
Excellent guitar solo, Gilmour is amazing.
Eerily reminiscent yes. But quite different. Close your eyes and listen with your mind not your ears
I would bet money this song came close to making The Wall, at least a song for the ending.
Great song. Guitar solo is eerily reminiscent of comfortably numb.
Absolutely sublime
The Tom Waits credit is wrong - another Pandora software/dat a b a s e goof...

Awsome!!!!
I missed the 12/12/12 concert for victims of Sandy, but I think I heard that Roger and Eddie Vedder did this song together...w h i c h I will hear someday, I will make sure of it.
IMP&HO, this song would have been a great way to end The Wall. I mean really. If you have been isolated in a closed space for so long and you finally have the gall to break free, heck, I'd be flying and never look back.
Seems to me that their have been several incarnations of the band known as Pink Floyd. Syd and Roger, then Roger and Dave? Then Roger, then Dave, then Roger and Dave on their own. It's still Floyd! I guess.
Leaving one bad situation for another may just lead to more turning away.
Great tune. One of the best ever.
I don't think this is just referring to the rich turning away, but most of society in general.
Had no idea this was a Tom Waits song, I think David might have a better singing voice, but I think it is a lyrical genius on the part of Tom here.
Excellent piece! Very moving.
Saw them do this on their last tour (Division Bell). EPIC!! It was their last song before they'd take a 20 minute break, before coming back to finish the show. Unfortunatel y I had to leave after the song to pick up my then-girlfri e n d who was flying in that same night. AAAGH!! lol

One of the best songs ever..love pink and david g.
One of the most powerful songs ever written.
I love this song.It says so much about what is sick and twisted in this society. The homeless in this country (many of whom arel mentally ill) are treated like garbage. Because they don't fit into a convenient box in a Super Store, the elites believe they can simply write them off. As it says in Pink Floyd's Sheep, one day the people will rise up and rip the throats out of the cowardly Dogs who are so proud and self-assured . The Meek will indeed inherit the Earth... sooner than they think.
It's disheartenin g to realize that the lyrics are as relevant today as when they first hit the airwaves, and they'll probably continue to be relevant for as long as mankind exists.

Even though Pandora gives credit to Tom Waits as the songwriter and that may be correct the original record gives credit to Gilmore himself and A.Moore at least for the Copy-write. Either way it's not clear since the record gives Copy-writes to Gilmore and others for every song on the album. On thing noteworthy though is that Tony Levin played Bass Guitar on this album.
Best thing to ever do: stay up two days straight, listen to pink Floyd while looking at swirling tie dye ( like a video from windows music player)

Anyone else hearing Celtic-sound i n g chords?
Not bad man

No this song was written by Gilmore, and Anthony Moore, as were most of the songs on this album. Extremely good lyrics, greatly performed. DE
born in '84 here. I wasn't a big fan of this track growing up and preferred the harder hitting and classic Floyd stuff. Now that I've matured a bit, this song makes me choke up and I'll sing along any chance I get...

I doubt that the Tom Waits writing credit here is accurate - the Wikipedia page for it lists David Gilmour and Anthony Moore as the writers. Great song in any case.
