Lyrics

You gotta be crazy, you gotta have a real need.
You gotta sleep on your toes, and when you're on the street,
You gotta be able to pick out the easy meat with your eyes closed.
And then moving in silently, down wind and out of sight,

Rodger Waters literally is the best.

Maybe my favorite Gilmour solo
wonder if this one ever made it to one of the live sets?
So truly awesome !!!!
Hmmmm living ur life like a dog has a bitter ending and sad
nicslager
Oh... that makes much more sence
@Nicslager
In the music world, when people say Rhodes, they typically mean the Rhodes electric piano, not the guitarist.

What's with classic rhodes sound... randy rhodes was (a) not in pink floyd and (b) not popular untill the 80's... he wasn't even discovered by Ozzy untill the 80s
Enjoy!
Amazing guitar tone on this one. And amazing lyrics.
This song is dedicated to my b**ch of a best friend...Sta b you in the back with my own knife....Who was dragged down by the stone
Brilliant album. It's so hard for me to pick a favorite PF album.

Correct Mallory I am able to relate
Gilmour is the real genius...And for me this song represents all the pieces of s**t I've met along the path who not only stabbed me in the back but with my own knife

Whoa, Animals is no stepping stone. While The Wall (1979) was certainly highly-produ c e d , and is testimony to Roger Water's brilliance as a minimalist composer, the entire band collaborated more in the writing of Pink Floyd's earlier albums, which were all undeniably innovative and wondrous (Animals and Meddle are two of my favorites).
A bit too raw and depressing for me as a kid. Can appreciate it now esp for the departure it represented sonically and thematically at this point in PF catalog. The Wall couldn't have happened without Animals as a stepping stone
my favorite Floyd album, always sounds different, awesome!!!!! !
This is my favorite album by them..... I would have loved to see them for this tour.....
my fave is Pigs (3 Different Ones).
Having college flashbacks! lol. tho I'm partial to Pigs (3 Little Ones)
One of Floyd's best. Has anyone heard of steel breeze. A live deep cut?
Probably the best track on one of the greatest albums of all time.
Love this song, my favorite long song
Seventeen minutes of truth. Beware the dog. And of course our stone.
Love Dave's guitar on this song. And Roger's lyrics on this song are amazing.
Get ready for the ballad of sean flaherty
one of the best PF songs!
My favorite Floyd song of all time. Don't get to hear it much because it is so long. It's perfect in lyrics and some of the greatest guitar ever played. Not much more you can say, but Dogs is what Pink Floyd is all about
Animals... My all time favorite Floyd album.. <3
So nostalgic. Listened to this song so much when I was 11.
This song has the most amazing, poignant lyrics. Absolutely brilliant.
Pink floyd is my favorite :)

I think that it's the lyrics that put this song over the edge to the point where it qualifies as a great work. In addition to all of the great musical and creative qualities that it has. It's not depressing at all just a heavy dose of reality.
brilliant!
This is my favorite Floyd song- without a doubt does so much, phenomenol guitar by Gilmour, even though the lyrics may be some of the most depressing of all time. Just a classic- my friends and I listened to this for an entire summer when it came out. What memories. I wish a band could come out now with a song that was 18 minutes long. The record companies would never allow it. Such a shame to compare with the low level garbage churned out today.

Masterpiece!

Saw Floyd in Cleveland in the summer of 1979 when they were touring and promoting this album. They played it in it's entirety along with the entire Wish You Were Here album. When they played Pigs on the Wing they released hundreds of little floating pigs...it was awesome. The whole concert was amazing. Best concert ever and I have seen a few.
My favorite floyd album
18 minutes of PURE Joy and ecstasy
I fully agree with mattrowell on the guitar

The guitar work on this song is just incredible. The bluesy solo really gets me. The way Gilmour uses feedback to express anger here always impressed me.
Always epic in all endeavors, this concept album finds the Floyd tackling the darkside of government and society. It was based on Eric Arthur Blair's novel, Animal Farm. Concerning the lyrics, of particuliar impact is Roger Water's symbol of 'the stone', summing up guilt and greed and how it separates people from their own humanity, and society. This specific motif is used again in "Hey You", from The Wall, and serves as a thematic link between the two albums.
Quite simply: STUNNING.
One of my all time favorite PF songs. Makes me want to crawl inside the radio back to my salad days and relive this moment under bright sun, young, and care free.

who needs acid when listing to this kind of music!!! great stuff!!!!
Plodding, Methodical, Epic. Yes. But I have a personal bub about people calling Pink Floyd "stoner" music, which tends to imply that one needs to be under the influence of some substance to appreciate it. It's not the first time I have heard that comment, and yes the members of Pink Floyd admitted that substances highly influenced and shaped their work, but this should never detract from the fact that they are quite simply one of the most amazing bands in history.

my favorite pink floyd song.
Animals one of my Favorites for sure... Oh the Memories

Ode to Dick Cheney:
"And when you lose control,
you'll reap the havest you have sown,
and as the fear grows,
the bad blood slow and turns to stone.

And it's too late
to lose the weight
you used to need to throw around

So have a good drown
as you go down
Dragged down by the stone."
