Comprised of bassist Cedric Napoleon, drummer Curtis Harmon, and keyboardist James Lloyd, Pieces of a Dream were founded in 1975 in Philadelphia when the principal members were all teenagers. Originally somewhat jazz-oriented, Pieces of a Dream have mostly emphasized R&B, although they usually include a few jazz numbers in their performances. Grover Washington, Jr. produced their first three albums (all for Elektra during 1981-1983); they have since recorded for Manhattan and Blue Note. Saxophonist Ron Kerber became a member in the 1990s, preceding the four varied releases that appeared throughout the decade. A collection appeared at the turn of the century, but the band proved to still be going strong with 2001's Acquainted with the Night and 2002's Love's Silhouette. No Assembly Required was released in 2004 on Cleveland's Heads Up label, followed by 2006's Pillow Talk, also on Heads Up. ~ Scott Yanow, Rovi
The mastery of the sounds that Bro. Grover found in PoaD would have been unfortunate had he walked away leaving you guys undiscovered. You came on the seen at the perfect time, unleasing music that will live on for ages uplifting the souls and spirits timelessly... THANK_YOU.
I had the privilege of seeing them peform live at the free Smooth Jazz Wednesdays concerts that was sponsored by CD 101.9 which is sadly no longer in New York at the World Trade Centerbefore it was destroyed 2 years later. I enjoyed their peformance and especially love Club Jazz. I would love to see them perform again in New York soon.
..am very envious of those who knew them before and now and have worked with them and were and are friends with them.Man,that's gotta be way cool.I haven't been fortunate to be close to someone like all of you have....take my hat off to all of you.
Went to school with these brothers. I remember hearing them in the garage before they got famous. much luv for y'all. Their first business manager was my friend and neighbor.....
I had the pleasure of working with some of the members at the Robn's Nest Jazz Club in Cleveland years ago. Keep doing what you're doing...it's working brothers!!
I started listening to Pieces Of A Dream when I was stationed in Philadelphia (1984)... I absolutely love them, then and now. Thanks 'Pieces Of A Dream' for soothing my soul.
I agree with paul.severns on the need for sanity in the world of musical comfort. We think, we realize, we solve, we love ourselves and other at the end of the day. We are healed by the smooth.
that's what jazz does..plain and simple....makes the day more comfortable to deal with as well as any time for that matter. Can't go wrong with that.Just don't understand why so many jazz stations are going off the air.Doesn't make any sense at all.Need MORE jazz stations out there!
