Phil Driscoll

CCM trumpeter/singer Phil Driscoll was born November 9, 1947 in Seattle, and by the age of three was already playing a plastic trombone and Hawaiian slack guitar. While a freshman at Baylor University he formed the school's first jazz band, and as a sophomore recorded his first album, 1969's A Touch of Trumpet, with the Stockholm Symphony Orchestra. During his senior year, Driscoll took top honors on the CBS television talent-search series The All American College Bowl for a dozen weeks running, once even beating the aspiring pop duo of siblings Karen and Richard Carpenter; after completing 1970's Blowin' a New Mind he moved into secular pop music, composing material for acts including Joe Cocker, Stephen Stills, Blood, Sweat & Tears and Leon Russell. Driscoll returned to the Christian music fold with 1981's Ten Years After, and with 1983's I Exalt Thee scored a Dove Award for Instrumental Album Of the Year as well as Grammy nomination in the Best Gospel/Pop Album category. Both 1985's Power of Praise and 1987's Make Us One took home Dove Awards as well, and in the years to follow Driscoll lent his soulful, pop-influenced sound to everything from children's songs (1989's Gabe and the Good News Gang) to patriotic material (1990's Celebrate Freedom) to R&B (1990's Innerman) to seasonal favorites (1993's The Sound of Christmas). In 1996 he expanded into the television ministry with the show The Voice of Praise; that same year, the album A Different Man launched the hit "Christ Remains." Driscoll even turned to country music with 1997's Shine the Light; Simple Song followed two years later, and in the spring of 2000 he issued two new LPs, Plugged In and Quiet. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

My father, mother, twin sister Lynn and me, Leslie happened to walk into a place where Driscoll, Frank Laurie and band were performing back in 1974 in Jacksonville , Florida. For 7 years we followed this amazing man and band. We have never heard a better trumpet, singer player like Phil and of course Frank Laurie, great flute, piano player. Our stay in Jacksonville was because of this phenomenal group. Glad to hear your music again.
VERY UPLIFTING,

Phil's music and trumpet playing got me through a particularly rough time in my children and my lives! I will never forget that-early 90's. Whenever I hear his music now I go into a state of worship and gratitude. Thank you Phil and our Lord Jesus Christ for your gift and the gift to us through you!

the top right of the cover forinner man looks very similar to Michael w. smith's project album
Have been a fan of Phil since I started playing trumpet in Junior High - I use music from his Instrument of Praise album during Gospel Magic shows.
Love it
I knew Phil in Junior High...and amazingly, he was a phenomenal already. Used to ride my bike over to his house, and run around...the n he would have to go in and practice...I guess the practice paid off!

Last Christmas, or maybe the year before, Sam's clubs had a video playing in the large screen TV section featuring 3D capabilities and the performer was Phil Driscoll. I tried really hard to find this concert DVD to purchase for my husband. Does anyone know anything about this piece? It was an amazing performance and I was absolutely amazed by it! I would love to get my hands on this.
The first and only album that i bought of Phil's is the Freedom LP, awesome, love the songs about our freedom (country and spirit). As a young person in the 80's i was drawn to this album because of the great trumpet playing. Love all the albums that Pandora has of Phil Driscol on their playing list.
i agree with barmstrong79 1 about the album in his presence' - the annointing is strong on this one. I enter a place of worship EVERYTIME I listen to it.

I think his album, In His Presence, is one of the top 5 Christian worship albums ever. Doesn't look like it's on the Pandora list, but it should be.

I first saw him at the church I attended, Peoples Church in Salem Oregon. I believe the Lord gave us all a taste of heaven that night. He and our worship pastor began to play spontanious worship that brought a sweet touch of the Holy Ghost in the room that can not be explained. Thanks Phil for sharing your gift!

He played in Daytona Beach at Bike Week of all things. Once he was done playing his well known secular music he announced "Now we're going to have church", and man the worship music was INCREDIBLE! He played way past his time slot and all the people stayed!
Does anyone remember a song (I think by him) from the early 80's. It starts out: "Brother, brother you opened up my eyes, you led me to the father thru Jesus Christ and I want to thank you for His spirit in my heart and I'm going to praise the Lord from morning til dark..." I don't remember any more than this.
I love his music!

What an incredible voice! I saw him on the Mike Barber Ministry program and thought what a great song and was amazed at this guy, and why I didn't know about him sooner. Just wasn't the right time, everything is in the timing. I love jazz, but this one slipped right by but not now!

Phil is an awesome man of God and it comes out through his music. I had the amazing opportunity to share a live recording with him while attending Upper Room Ministries on Long Island (NY). Phil is a humble, loving person and doesn't exhault himself; only God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Phil thank you for sharing your gift with us. Debra - Tampa, FL

I've have been listen to your music from the time I became a Christian. I don't know your age Mr. Driscoll but I'm in my late 50's and I came to the lord in my early 30's and I use to listen to a man called Joe Cocker. the 1st time I heard you was after I came to the Lord. I think you and he sound so much alike but your singing for God , he isn't you really help me with your songs and music. it helped my soul get stronger in the Lord. God Bless you always.

He's the main reason I listen to Christian music. Strong Christian. Great trumpeter.
he is a great person who loves God with all of his being. For him to go through the stuff he has been through and Satan did not defeat him, says alot about him. He is comitted to God. Keep going Phil.
I am blessed to see him performed live in our church at the Cathedral of Praise, Manila, Philippines and he prayed with us together during our pre service worship.
I love his music because it touches my spirit everytime i listen to it.
I have been blessed to hear him in person, wonderful music.
