Peter Mulvey

Urban art-folksier Peter Mulvey has lived an artist's life since adolescence -- he was a college theater major, spent time busking in Dublin, Ireland, and founded the Milwaukee band Big Sky, all before his early twenties. But his professional music career didn't really begin until 1991, when was fired from a job at a Kinko's Copiers in Boston. Flat broke and in need of immediate cash to entertain his visiting brother, Mulvey starting playing his guitar in the subway. He supported himself that way for a couple of years, working ten-hour days in the smog-drenched underground. In the meantime, he released two CDs on his own (Brother Rabbit Speaks in 1992; Rain in 1993). Mulvey's rising star hit the accelerator in 1994 when he won the Boston Acoustic Underground competition. In 1996, he signed with Eastern Front Records and recorded the Boston Award-nominated Rapture, which won consistent raves for his dazzlingly funky acoustic fretwork. He tossed off an acoustic EP (Goodbye Bob) before releasing a much more aggressive acoustic modern rock album in 1997 (Deep Blue, also on Eastern Front). As a side project, the prolific guitarist also rejoined his old colleagues from Big Sky in 1997, to record a CD entitled Lately under the band name Little Sky. The solo The Trouble with Poets followed in the spring of 2000. ~ Darryl Cater, Rovi

I've quickly developed an auditory crush on Peter Mulvey!

Peter is the most played artist on my playlist. If you can ever catch him in person he's incredible. His lyrics are so dead on and in combo with that voice, timing and fingerwork.. . Worth five times whatever you're paying to see him. Look him up and follow him!

First saw Peter in an intimate setting (I am talking about 10 people) at a little new age bookstore, Audrey's Inner Vision, in Denville NJ. An experience that had obviously made an impression as that was a good 15+ years ago!
Have seen Peter perform numerous times, including the guitar store he and David Goodrich used to work at in Lexington, MA. The consumate artist.

I am an unverified groupy of Peters and have driven hours to hear him tune up. A night in his audience is like hanging out with the coolest older brother you ever met, and he is sharing his toys with you freely. Seek him out, see him live, smile all the way home as you listen to the cd the autographed just for you.

Definitely a dessert island disc artist. Peter is a national treasure! Thoughtful, intelligent lyrics, noteworthy chops and the greatest guy to just hang out with.
first time hearing this but I LIKE IT!!!

I saw Peter Mulvey at the Moab Folk Festival (Utah) in November 2010. He is a consummate entertainer and musician.
It's amazing to me that he's not a household name! I am doing my best to change that. He is THE deeply moving musical poet of the 21st century, and I feel that no ear should be denied the grace of his voice.
I thumb-ed this up within the first few measures...g r e a t rhythm treatment, a view askew and vocals that sound so beautifully effortless. I will definitely head to my LRS and pick up more!
Peter Mulvey is awesome, and even more incredible live.
One of my favorites, musical storytelling with amazing guitar. And his voice!
Guitaring at its finest.

Peter Mulvey has a remarkable sound, and a unique voice.
Whoa. This is good stuff... Really good... And yes, I'm old enough to remember the Beatles.
Lovely, resonant voice...
Soft vocals along with tangy guitar makes this a wonderful sound
Charlie..
Haunting and beautiful to listen to.

i believe i must've seen/heard mulvey while i was a student in boston! no wonder the cd my potter friend burned for me (pirate potter?) sounded so familiar. i hope i put enough money in his guitar case back in the day! love you peter...from one poet to another.
Nice. Love Urban Suite
"all the way home" is a great song. it haunts the heck out of me each time i hear it.
I'm listening to "Shirt" and Peter Mulvey for the first time. What a great artist. His bio is equally amazing.
Shout out to Susie Manley and all of the music/people of Nashville. The Dancin' in the District showcased some of the best singer songwriters anywhere; Peter Mulvey is a prime example. Susie, come to this burnt out shell of a music city, NY and grace us with the music and magic that this Nashville transplant so greatly misses.

I met Peter Mulvey in Nashville in probably 1991 when he played a festival I produced called Dancin' In The District. He was so good and so nice and was living out of his car, traveling around the country playing music. I remember wishing I was him. I'm glad to hear him again and it's good to know that when the music inspires us enough to make us do something crazy like follow our hearts and hit the road, the road doesn't always hit back. Beautiful.

this guy writes great lyrics and is a magical musician..he has soul and heart.
The only album I have gotten was the ten thousand mornings CD Which to be honest was very hit or miss sing wise. I love some songs like "For no one" and "oliver's Army" but some of them I didn't like at all. Note though that he didn't write any of those songs. Im not sure about the Other albums.
how is somebody this nasty so low key?
