I grew up listening to my dads 70's vinyle collection. The Stones, Kiss, The Dead, etc. From there I listened to punk rock, then underground post modern before it became top 40. In the 80's it was all about INXS, U2, The Cure, Sugar Cubes, Anything Box, Dead Milkmen, Marginal Man, Dead Kennedys, Stranglers, Sisters of Mercy, Hoodoo Gurus, Sex Pistols, Zig Zig Sputnik, The Cult, etc. In the 90s it was all about Nine Inch Nails, Lenny Kravitz, The Charlatans UK, Stone Temple Pilots, etc. Now, I am still into going back to the goods from the past and also like Contemporary Christian Rock music. So, I say "mix it up and listen to the good stuff and remember your life from the past to the now!"
