Paul Jackson Jr.

Los Angeles session guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr. was one of the most prolific players in R&B during the '70s and '80s. Jackson played for the Temptations, Gerald Alston, Bobby Womack, Luther Vandross, Patrice Rushen, Ramsey Lewis, Nancy Wilson, the Pointer Sisters, Howard Hewett, Dennis Edwards, and Jeffrey Osborne, among others, before earning his own solo deal with Atlantic in 1986. But he hasn't been nearly as successful as a lead artist; neither his 1988 release I Came To Play or his '90 effort Out of the Shadows has made any headway. ~ Ron Wynn

Paul's "Lay It Back" album is one of my favorite smooth jazz albums of all-time. All the tracks are phenomenal and they never grow stale. Keep bringing it, Paul! Look forward to your next release...

The bio writer needs to resign. How dare you write something so short about the best guitarist of this era..Paul Jacksons' bio reads like a story book he has played with everyone In the industry and is a phenomenal man of God as well..Do your homework. .Paul glad we know all about you!!!!

This info on PJ failed to mentioned that he was a sought after music director in a variety of venues. I always saw him in the 90s and early 2000s on TV and video as a music director on American Idol and some Christian live concert venues.

Incredible talent, style & technique in buckets, lack of commercial success sometimes has little to do with he artist and more to do with the marketeers.

I first met Paul when he was 17 years old playing in the studio with WahWah Watson, he has been impressive every time I have had the pleasure of hearing him and watching him play! He is a musician's musician and he has not been given the exposure by the record companies that his enormous talent deserves. There are few guitarists that are his equal when it comes to his mastery of his instrument!! !

What kind of Bio is this!!!!! Paul Jackson is an awesome guitarist and all you can write is that he hasn't had commercial success? In most cases, commercial success has more to do with things out of the control of the musician. Obviously if someone takes the time to read the Bio of an artist, there is interest in the artist and his/her music. Tell us about what makes his music great, his influences, etc. He's a First call session player and he happens to be a First call guitarist for

I remember Paul Jackson, Jr. from my neighborhood back in the day. I'm proud to know him and I've been a fan forever. He's an original, and his music will last long after we're all gone. Here's to you, PJ, Jr., and all the talent that came from 120th Street and Menlo Avenue!

LOL... I love this guy's playing -- one of my favorites, but before you think he's a struggling musician, you do realize he's currently the guitarist on both the TONIGHT SHOW WITH JAY LENO and AMERICAN IDOL -- he's worked a lot with bandleader Ricky Minor. He's also been in the AMERICA'S GOT TALENT band as well as other major projects. I agree that this bio was a pretty shallow summary of his work.
