Paradise Lost

The British doom metal band Paradise Lost formed in Halifax, England in 1988; originally comprising vocalist Nick Holmes, lead guitarist Gregor Mackintosh, rhythm guitarist Aaron Aedy, bassist Steve Edmonson, and drummer Matthew Archer, the group recorded a pair of demo tapes, Drown in Darkness and Frozen Illusion, before signing with Peaceville Records to issue their debut album Lost Paradise in early 1990. The follow-up, 1991's Gothic, was the band's breakthrough, its dark production and orchestral elements setting them apart from the competition; a major European tour also expanded Paradise Lost's fanbase dramatically. Signing with the Music for Nations label, they returned in 1992 with Shades of God, considered by many to be their high-water mark; an EP, As I Die, appeared later that same year, complete with cover art by the incomparable Dave McKean. After 1993's Icon, Archer left Paradise Lost, and was replaced by drummer Lee Morris; Draconian Times followed in 1995, with One Second released two years later. ~ Jason Ankeny

Don't read this because it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest Friday by the love of you life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you started reading this so don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in the next 143 minutes. When you are done press f6 and your lovers name will appear on the screen in big letters this is so scary because it actually works.

Listening to Shades of God awhile back, I wondered if they were still around, and behold! And, their latest, Tragic Idol, is absolutely awesome! Maybe their best stuff yet.
Report as inappropriate
I believe Paradise Lost is the best doom metal band out there. .
Report as inappropriate
interesting ... this came on in my Depeche Mode /Duran Duran station.
I didn't believe they were a doom-metal band. i guess that's what happens when you lose your way in the music industry

check our Lost Paradise, Gothic, Shades of God, or Icon and you'll definitely see a huge contrast to Depeche Mode. These guys used to be classic heavy doom metal, but changed their style drastically after Icon.
Report as inappropriate
These guys sound more like Depeche Mode, and other new wave bands, how are they doom metal? Or metal at all? They seem good but definitely not doom metal, at least not what I've heard of them.

Brit metal! Haha, awesome. I know it's wrong, but when I think of British metal, I just get the mental image of an old timey English gentleman dusting off his suit, putting down his cup of tea, before bellowing like a demon and giving the other members of his residence heart attacks.

As far as I am aware the word Goth is used in vernacular American English as a virtual synonym both for what may be called “Dark wave music” and the associated subculture. Therefore, the adjective Gothic as applied to music is meant to connote the presence of Dark wave influences on a genre, band, or composition. Looked at from this perspective much of Paradise Lost’s material (and that of similar bands) can be identified as Gothic, particularly when considering such albums of theirs as Host.
Report as inappropriate
Shades of God is definately thier best. Weak bio for a great band.
Report as inappropriate
Should I get Icon or Draconian Times?
Report as inappropriate
The album "gothic" has more to do with the word GOTHIC than the music style (which in my opinion is kind of gay , no offense ) if you people do a search of what really means gothic then you might understand what is gothic.

In my opinion, it's difficult to label this band's musical style because they're too awesome to be labeled.

Awesome band.
Report as inappropriate
Definitely not underground. The only people who are not aware of their existence are ignorant to the goth genre.
