Violinist Papa John Creach first came to the notice of rock fans when he joined Jefferson Airplane and its spin-off group, Hot Tuna, in 1970. By that time, he was already in his early fifties, a veteran of jazz and blues associations, while his fellow bandmembers were still approaching 30. Nevertheless, using an electrified violin, Creach added a new psychedelic edge to the Airplane in its final days. The band split in 1972, by which time Creach had begun to release solo albums on its custom label, Grunt. The Airplane was reorganized and relaunched as Jefferson Starship, and Creach was with it through its million-selling Red Octopus album in 1975. He continued to make solo albums through 1992, when he released Papa Blues. Papa John Creach died of heart failure in 1994 at the age of 76. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi

I saw Papa John Creach at a free Jefferson Starship concert in Central Park. He sure could play, and had a nice way with people. He kindly asked concert-goers to climb off of a baseball backstop, which was bending under their weight, so the rest of us could get back to having a good time.
Papa John Creach. He's one of the best blues violinests. He'll always be in my 'blues playlists'.Also Stephane Grapelli, unbelievable, in an older but wonderful style. siccarii
Never met a nicer, more gracious man - and as for his music - it seriously rocks! This guy is definitely mixing it with all the late greats in heaven's all-star band.

I once saw Papa John open for Mahavishnu Orchestra - a strange pairing indeed
Pappa John Creach... only surpassed by the legendary Earl Scruggs on the banjo! And, I won't hesitate to mention the great Lightnin' Sam Hopkins (on guitar).
I'm nearly 64, but hearing Pappa John Creach play makes my spirit feel very young again! May God bless him for the happiness he has brought to me and others with his gift and skill.

I was fortunate enough to see Papa John in Portland with Seafood Mama (later Quarterflash) with his band made up of family members. That guy could really go on the fiddle. His haunting sound really effected the Jefferson sound later on. He was one of a kind and a true talent of paramount ability and feel.

when memory is not cooperating, other music fades, this tune still give away the surprise of "over the rainbow".
