Pain Of Salvation

In 1984, Daniel Gildenlow formed the band Reality at the whopping age of 11. The group stayed together under that name for seven years, albeit not without personnel changes. In 1991, the name Reality was shelved for the new reality of the name Pain of Salvation. By this point, the lineup was the aforementioned Gildenlow, Johan Hallgren, Johan Langell, and Kristoffer Gildenlow. When Fredrik Hermansson joined in 1996, they realized that they were ready to record an album. The result, Entropia, was laid down in 1997. They followed that disc up within a year with One Hour by the Concrete Lake. 2001 saw the group releasing The Perfect Element I, and a follow-up came fast with the release of the concept album Remedy Lane the following year. Daniel Gildenlow remains the only original member, and has been joined by bassist Gustaf Heim, guitarist Ragnar Solberg, drummer Leo Margarit, keyboardist Daniel Karlsson ~ Gary Hill, Rovi

he was 11 when he started his first band in '84 he didn't record an album until '97.

Not bad for 11 years old. Sounds pretty manly for 11.

I have known of this band for a long time, but only really recently started spending time listening to their music and learning their style. In short, holy s**t. These guys are incredibly versatile and I love their musicianship . I hope I get to see them live sometime soon! (Also, for those asking about great solos, the instrumental section at the end of 'People Passing By' on Entropia is magnificent. )

I can't get enough of them. I saw them at ProgPower in '04. Unforgettabl e show.

"If you are looking for a band that sounds just like your favorite band, just forget about us. If you are looking for a band that will make you forget about your favorite band, we are here, just walk down Remedy Lane a few times and you will never be the same again..."

Daniel Gildenlow- lead singer/songw r i t e r / g u i t a r i s t of POS.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Sadness :(

They pulled out of progressive nation tour.

Actually, they have tons of great solos. You mentioned a few ok ones, but there are much more interesting ones:

King of Loss (Perfect Element)
Used (Perfect Element)
This Heart Of Mine (Remedy Lane)
Second Love (Remedy Lane)
(!) Foreword (Entropia)
Home (One Hour By The Concrete Lake)
People Passing By (Entropia)
Inside Out (One Hour By The Concrete Lake)

Oh, and all the ones on this list are played by the singer.
Also, he's easily the most versatile singer of our time, not some "opera guy".

What are some good guitar solos from these guys

These guys write the most emotionally dynamic and challenging albums in my collection. One step into the Entropic world of Pain of Salvation and my entire body is charged, my mind is a crystalline pulse of light, and my heart is enflamed with compassion, anger, love, and pain. Faith No More is one of their deepest influences (mostly Mike Patton), but Tool and Primus can only dream of what Pain of Salvation has accomplished . Every album builds upon the last album and progresses a greater concept

ok... I'm hearing Faith No More, Primus, Tool, and some opera guy. Lots of rythmic tension, and a taste of what Schizophreni a might feel like... I like it.

I still cannot believe that these guys are not more well-known. It is surely a shame that the Nirvana page has millions of comments DAILY and no-one has heard of the bands that can really play music.

Hmmm... listening to this for the first time... I hear "Sevendust", "Korn", "Queensryche " , and something else I can't quite get my mind to recall... not too bad though... thx for the lead listeners!

Everyone bow down to Daniel Gildenlow. One of the most intelligent and creative musicians ever.

These guys were once the top of the Genre. Amazingly conceptual and emotionally/ p s y c h o l o g i c a l l y complex and accurate, their albums continue to evolve into one another (exculding Scarsick). They will challenge you on every level; intellectual l y , emotionally, technically, spiritually and in any other manner. They are not afraid to tackle tough subjects such as child abuse, adolesence, politics, World Religions (Be), and the evolving and progressing state of Mankind. Not for the weak. Pain of Salva

Amazing musicianship !

Hello All, I really like this, I can find the grooves but they are in different time signitures! Put a little Dio, Dream Theater, Queensryche and wow we have wonderful music! First time for me tonight! Never stop listening!
Report as inappropriate
very reminiscent of Queensryche, at least the "in the flesh" track I just listened to...

I want to say that it's kind of jazzie. Very technical for sure. I'm having a hard time finding the groove.
