Ou Est le Swimming Pool are an English synth pop band whose full-length album debut, The Golden Year, was released mere weeks after the tragic suicide of lead singer Charles Haddon in 2010. Founded in 2008 in Camden, London, the band is a trio comprised of Joe Hutchinson and Caan Capan, in addition to Haddon. They made their commercial recording debut in 2009 with the single "Dance the Way I Feel" and toured as the supporting act of La Roux, another English synth pop act with a French name. The popularity of "Dance the Way I Feel," far and away the band's biggest hit, was bolstered by an Armand Van Helden club remix. The following year Ou Est le Swimming Pool released a couple follow-up singles, "These New Knights" and "Jackson's Last Stand," and made arrangements to release their debut album. Tragedy struck on the night of August 20, 2010, when Haddon killed himself after the band's performance at the Pukkelpop festival in Hasselt, Belgium. In spite of the tragedy, Ou Est le Swimming Pool went ahead and made their full-length album debut with The Golden Year. Released on the Fire & Manoeuvre label, the album includes the band's three singles to date along with fourth single "The Key." ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
He killed himself because he dove in to crowd surf and landed on a girl and she was injured really bad. He did it because he felt guilty about it (and for the band to avoid a lawsuit?).
So when I first heard these guys I was really excited about them so I started researching stuff about them and seeing if they were playing anywhere near me.....until I found out what happened....but at least I'll always have Dance the Way I Feel!
