Orquesta Aragon
Orquesta Aragon are a popular charanga band hailing from Cuba. Their distinctive sound is based on traditional son with its African rhythm section and Spanish melodies, over which they added three violins. Orquesta Aragon were not only popular as interpreters of son, but are also credited with inspiring New York mambo. They can be heard performing on That Cuban Cha-Cha-Cha and in collaboration with Beny More and Perez Prado on Riverside Years. ~ Leon Jackson, Rovi
This is a very poor description of what the Oquesta Aragon really was. Most, i f not all, of its original members are now retired or dead. this members today are, well, not up to par. Today's Glenn Miller band is closer to the original quality than Aragon is. ALL charanga type orchestras are based on the French chamber music group of strings -violins, base and, sometimes, cello - plus flute and piano. In the charanga, percussion instruments - tumbadora, timbales and guiro - are added.
