Nomeansno

An often bizarre punk band from Victoria, British Columbia, Nomeansno formed around brothers Rob (bass, guitar, vocals) and John Wright (vocals, drums, keyboards). Andy Kerr joined up in the early '80s on guitar and vocals, and upon his departure in the early '90s, the band recruited guitarist Tom Holliston as his replacement. The group's punk hybrid also encompasses touches of jazz, funk, and metal, with special emphasis laid on jarring, hard-to-follow rhythms. Their lyrics are often self-consciously weird, but Nomeansno are frequently original and challenging. With countless releases over the years (tenth full-length All Roads Lead to Ausfahrt appeared in 2006), the band has issued music through labels like Alternative Tentacles, AntAcidAudio, Southern, and their own, Wrong Records. The Wright brothers also spent time playing with their side band the Hanson Brothers, basically a ridiculous Ramones tribute band they did with some buddies. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi

love these guys.... amazing.
One of the best....
Lesa! Can't listen to nomeansno and not think about you...
The description in the bio is a bit harsh. I have to say Jarring and harsh rhythms? I find Nomeansno to be a brilliant band - but they certainly defy labelling. I've heard the term Jazzcore used but that's not nearly 100% accurate.

They are who they are. Part Punk, part funk, part rap (really, The Day Everything.. . was so far ahead of its time that it's almost crazy), part serious Jazz... You have no idea what you will get with these guys. But the music is brilliant

Fortunate enough to have seen these guys years ago in Cleveland, Ohio. That is all I need say.
One of those bands that defies labeling, NoMeansNo bring a new dimension of musicality to the punk genre. Mixing everything from jazz to metal, NoMeansNo thrive on originality and intelligence both in ideology and production. And they are by far the tightest band I have ever seen live!
The best thing to come from up north since Deadpool, actually, I think they were first haha
I haven't heard these guys sience the 90's
still going strong, if you ever get a chance to see these guys live, do it.

elitist punks! best s**t ever.
Completely addicted to these hockey punks after they turned up on my Pandora station. Wrong, 0+2=1, The Day Everything Became Isolated and Destroyed, Mama. Just got a copy of Sex Mad off of Slamamzon... Seriously I'm jonesing - I will drive across the border and toss Mr. Wrong into my f-ing trunk...
Makes my pants fit funny
The guitarist is named after my hometown. Weird.
Got to see the Hanson Brothers in Spokane back in the early 90's. F**king hilarious, moronic fun. Based on the same brothers from the movie Slap Shot by the way. They came out with hockey sticks, birth-contro l glasses with tape on the bridges...th e whole deal. Fun s**t.
Completely amazing. Hillarious, witty and poetic. F'n bada$$!

I would actually recommend "Live and Cuddly". It has a wide selection of music from their earlier albums and the sound quality is so good you wouldn't think it was "live". However, "Wrong" is their definitive album. Truly an original band up there with Alice Donut and Bomb.
I recommend the album "Why Do They Call Me Mr. Happy?" to everyone who has an interest in hearing more of this band (they do not have it listed here for some insane reason). Fantasticall y chaotic and intense, with some of the oddest yet enjoyable lyrics ever written.

By far my favorite band of all time, Nomeansno doesn't just "encompass touches of jazz," they started as a bass/drum/ke y b o a r d (what I would call) jazz fusion group with "Mama." Their punk mentality was apparent then and evolved from there. For myself and other fans I know, the album to get is "Wrong". It will either kill you or it will make you stronger than you ever thought possible. Still the greatest rock show I've ever seen is Nomeansno (1990 or 91) and Jawbreaker at a club in Albuquerque.
Nomeansno is by far one of the most underated trio groups. im shocked to see only 2 comments here. they've been around for a long time and are still get the itch every now and again to tour. in fact, they just did last year. if you EVER get a chance to see these guys, DO IT! Damn it.
