This song , Ohio , Is the best. It so simply , only 3 or 4 chords and 2 stanzas of lyrics but in that it says so much. It one my favorite protest songs , along with "ball of confusion " and. "If I had a hammer" . I like this acoustic version best , it seem more passionate then the electronic version. Great song ,

A sad anthem from my youth. This acoustic version seems more impassioned than the original recorded one. This one brings me to the brink of tears.
My son is at UC Davis, and it is so shocking that they had to endure similar police abuse to what our generation suffered in 1970. Thank the stars those idiots didn't fire guns this time..
Or if not shooting you down, peppering your face . . . do things ever change?

this song's meaning, that people in the 60's should have put a stop to all the abuse young people were getting about protesting the war in Vietnam...my father's generation just did n't understand...It was a unjust war we could never win...so the young generation of the time did not want us in this war NIXON & His army killed 4 students FOR WHAT!PEACE TODAY PEOPLE OR IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN!!!HOWIE
even as a southern man, I still love having Neil Young around anyhow =)

I've heard something along that idea before karl.

Regarding the lyric "soldiers are cutting us down, should have been done long ago"... For some reason I thought the "should have been done long ago" was referring to a quote in the news from some right wing a-hole who basically said we should have shut these kids down long ago. Did I dream that or does that line refer to Neil saying we should have been protesting long ago? Thoughts?....
Great song!! I agree with you Robin. I still remember that day at Kent State. Neil sums it up, so many young people lost their lives for WHAT?
At least this song will always be there to mark this time in history. Too bad the Government doesn't practice PEACE.
Siiiighhhhhhh. One of the most beautifully written and performed protest songs of the era. It always stops me in my tracks and makes me cry. Thank you, Neil.
