Hailing from Boulder, CO, the six-piece group the Motet (drummer Dave Watts, percussionist Scott Messersmith, percussionist/vocalist Jans Ingebar, guitarist Mike Tiernen, bassist Kurt Reeber, and organist/keyboardist Steve Vidiac) first came together on Halloween 1998. Their sound incorporates elements of funk, jazz, folk, and world music and has served as a backup band for guitar great Stanley Jordan, as well as opening for such acclaimed acts as Ziggy Marley and the great James Brown. Their wide-ranging sound was captured perfectly on their 1999 release, entitled Breathe, produced solely by Watts and issued on the Seven Springs label. ~ Greg Prato, Rovi

Selected Discography should also include Play. And, yes, these guys, in all their configurations over the years, have a phenomenal groove. Even better live.

Bio is definitely still in need of an update. Garrett Sayers (bass) and Joey Porter (keys) have both been slaying it with The Motet for a few years now. Check these guys out next time you're in Colorado, or on their upcoming (now rare) dates elsewhere.
Brendan is correct, this NEEDS to be updated in a major way. There are many line-up changes. Also, Sayers can easily give one goose bumps, he is by far one of my all time favorite bassist. Having attended many of their Halloween sets, I can attest to their magnificence, "Dance Your A** Off"!!!!

Bio needs to be updated. Garrett Sayers is the bassist if I'm not mistaken. My first memory being inspired by music was in 5th grade when Garrett came to my school and played with the jazz band. I remember the goose bumps when he stood up and played his solo.
