Monuments

One of two bands (TesseracT is the other) to be born out of the dissolution of British djent pioneers Fellsilent, London-based transcontinental groove/progressive metal outfit Monuments originated as a side project of John Browne (Fellsilent) and Josh Travis (Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza) before morphing into a full-blown touring and recording entity. The group's 2012 Century Media debut, Gnosis, garnered international attention with its heady blend of djent-fueled riffing and hook-laden yet incredibly complex melodies, resulting in the group expanding to a quintet in 2014 with the subtraction of Travis and the addition of Chris Barretto (Periphery), Olly Steele, Adam Swan, and Mike Malyan. Monuments' second long-player for Century Media, Amanuensis, arrived that same year. ~ James Christopher Monger

Pandora should add their EP: We Are The Foundation. That 3 song Ep was amazing, & it was done with Fellsilent's vocalist, Neema Askari, which was great! Then Monument's changed vocalists by switching Askari with Matt Rose on Gnosis, another amazing Vocalist/Lyr i c i s t ! Now they have Chris Barretto who formerly fronted Periphery in their musical infancy, & is currently still fronting Ever Forthright.

@ Chris Crim: Ya gotta put Meshuggah on that list, for a couple reasons. The biggest being that they not only started the sub-genre (if you want to call it that) but Thordendal is also the one who first coined the word, Djent in an interview for the first time
I would also add Fellsilent, The Contortionis t , Ever Forthright, Reflections, Hypno5e, & Skyharbor to your list of bands that deserve to be there. What's your opinion on Circle of Contempt? I'm not sure whether or not they belong, but I t

Do you listen to the rhythms or just the vocals? These guys do sound a ton like Tesseract. Take the vocals away from both bands and the rhythms are pretty damn close. These guys lean toward solos and those guys lean toward atmospheres. That's probably the biggest difference

Monuments doesn't sound anything like tesseract. Wtf?!? You have limited music listening capabilities if you see a similarity between the two. Tesseract is soft as hell.

Oh yeah, Architects and Sikth deserve mention

Monuments, Tesseract, and Periphery belong at the top of the list of djent bands. Structures, Volumes, Within the ruins, after the Burial, Vildhjarta, born of Osiris, veil of Maya,Texture s , come next. Animals as Leaders is in a completely different league but equally good. Then you get more death metal style with djent feel like Impending doom etc. Just my opinion. Did I leave any bands out with honorable mention?

Ah. I wondered why they sounded so much like tesseract. Good band

Awesome band! I love Ever Forthright as well but I just can't seem to get over the fact that the lead singer of Ever Forthright is now fronting Monuments too. The lyrical content and vocal stylings are just too different

Where's The Amanuensis?
Report as inappropriate
Pandora needs to put The Amanuensis on here as soon as it comes out.

Amazing band. Unfortunatel y , or fortunately depending on your opinions, the original singer is longer there. The vocals you hear on songs like regenerate and 87% static are now sung by another singer.

I love this band.

Ikr! Irv1991 agreed

Monuments is similar to Within the Ruins and not Periphery? Makes sense (nope).

Shame on the screwed-up naming. Awesome band.

Thank you Chris...Seri o u s l y . That name needs to be fixed before I throw a fit. This band is far too good to be misnamed.
