Derided by critics as pompous, melodramatic, and bombastic, the Mission, as they were known in their native U.K., nonetheless attracted a core audience of goth rock fans. The band was formed in 1986 by guitarist/singer Wayne Hussey and bassist Craig Adams, who both left the Sisters of Mercy to do so. (Hussey had also played with the Walkie Talkies and Dead or Alive.) The two soon recruited Artery guitarist Simon Hinkler and former Red Lorry Yellow Lorry drummer Mick Brown, who solidified the line up. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
This is one of the truly great bands of their time...aside from Dream On most of their remakes are much better than the original versions. While opening for U2 Bono claimed "these a**holes are sounding better than us every night"...
Immensely underrated, The Mission was one of the best rock bands of the past 30 years. Listen to Masque, Neverland, and arguably their best album, Carved in sand. Lead singer Wayne Hussey's lyrics often talk about magic, myth, love, and heartache in beautiful ways. The Mission is the first band that I embraced as my favorite group, and had to listen to everything they did. I finally got to see them in concert in 2000 for their Resurrection Tour, and got a picture with me and Wayne, as well a

I call this D&D music. I feel like kicking a level 10 elfmagecleric now.
I hate to say it, but I'm with the critics, pretentious, pompous and dull. The cover of Arrowsmith's "Dream On" is a prime example. When it came on my player I was sure it had to be a joke. It evokes images of old guys in pastel blazers on stage in some long forgotten sector of Vegas playing 70's hard rock covers in that 80's gay crooner style.
John Lennon Probably wishes he would have done his song "Love" like these guys did! Out of this world. One of the most underrated bands ever. Angst, Dark, Melodic and with a purpose.
Much maligned and misunderstoo d , the press gave the band little credit but their influence is far-reaching . Little known fact that Radiohead are huge fans of the band to mention all but one... (for those more into the mainstream, fans include Brad Pitt).

Love them! I was thinking it was Ian McCollaugh from Echo & the Bunnymen, but guess I was wrong. Reminds me also of my romance w/my Liverpool husband back in the early 80's. Sisters of Mercy were one of the tops on our list of greats!
Awesome music! Sophisticated ! Angsty! Great lyrics! Love the guitar! Love the drums! Whatever else is in there!!!!! Keyboards?

The music of THE MISSION plays a distinct role in the many nostalgic memories my husband and I share of our teenage romance... Thanks for the music. Still rocks!
Yeah, but remember (are you old enough to?) when it was all 'God is dead,'--what a crock. Anyway, I love this band and their music!!!! Especially 'Wasteland'!!
I love this band but i can see why they are considered pompous. At the beginning of wasteland he states " I believe in God but God no longer believes in me " ahhhhhhhhhhhhh duuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
