Born on tour into a musical family, Mindi Abair was playing piano by the age of five. Within three years, she was playing saxophone and writing songs. She made her way through Berklee performing all kinds of music from jazz to rock and R&B. Upon moving back to Los Angeles, Abair started her own band. She also took on session work with artists as diverse as the Gap Band, Adam Sandler, Mandy Moore, John Tesh, Teena Marie, and the Backstreet Boys. During this time, she worked on creating her own sound and released her debut disc in 1999. The Backstreet Boys connection really paid off for her, and her website and CD (entitled Love) took off. The year 2000 saw the release of the follow-up, Always and Never the Same, and shortly thereafter Abair signed with GRP Records. A sophomore effort, It Just Happens That Way, was issued in 2003. "Lucy's," "Save the Last Dance," and the album's title track went on to impact Top Ten radio. A year later, Abair returned with Come as You Are, her second set produced with her writing partner, Matthew Hager. In 2006, Abair released Life Less Ordinary, which featured guest vocals from Lalah Hathaway and Keb' Mo', and also performed at the Governors Ball, the official Oscars afterparty. The following year, she appeared on guitarist Peter White's -- with whom she had performed frequently -- Christmas album, but 2008 saw a return to her solo material (and an introduction to Abair as a singer) with Stars. In 2010, Abair delivered the soul-jazz inspired In Hi-Fi Stereo which once again featured a mix of instrumental jazz with a few Abair vocal numbers. ~ Gary Hill, Rovi
Her performances evoke emotions as she fluently flows back and forth from inspirational, to transmitting all kinds of highs and lows. Good stage presence.
Don't read this because it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of you life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you've started reading so don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in 143 minutes. When done press f6 and your lover's name will come on the screen in big letters. This is so scary because it actually works!

Beautiful!! I love this song. She's knows how to make it happen.
I love this song. It is so funky. I do agree with everyone with what is happening to the Smooth Jazz stations that have folded. That has happened in New York with CD 1019. I still miss it. I believe that people will eventually want REAL artists and talent back instead of the watered down that you hear on radio these days.
It was in her blood to be successful, dynamic, and cool....

Mindi is another extraordinary sax player . . . so smooth!

Smooth jazz stations are closing up shop all over the place, unfortunately.

I recently saw Mindi in concert at the Berks Jazz Festival in Reading, PA. Beauty, brains, and talent, Talent, TALENT all in one package!!! She & her band are a real pleasure to listen to and watch on stage. I also miss the jazz station that was in the Philly area. I know I would not have been introduced to the smooth jazz genre in general, and her style in particular, without it. I'm looking forward to the next time she's in the area.
smb3542...its happening all over, unfortunately. The thing that gets me is this kind of music isn't grating, vulger, nor uncomfortable to listen to.....but quite the opposite.I grew up in the 60's and 70's(good times),but my main mode of listening is smooth jazz.So many good reasons to listen to it as posted by so many people here as well as me.Lets keep what we've still got here and on the airwaves ..i've even seen the lack of jazz cd's in stores,Keep jazz alive!!!!!

I love this song! and I miss the smooth jazz radio that was once here available through a local station.
Just seen Mindi at B.B. Kings in New York with Peter White and Kirk Whalum, what an outstanding Christmas show a must see if you can make one on their tour.
fromthedot8: in our world we have saying "get in where you fit in..." funny how those with the money want a cookie cutter sound something they know has sold before - once artists are finished with this phase of a career we ultimately get to hear the true artist the pure artist, but art for art's sake does not pay the bills or for the free services we enjoy on Pandora, relax enjoy the sounds....

thank you...for posting it now!

aw, so the not so flattering comment I left about too much "commercialism" in Mindi's sound didn't post?
fromthedot8
I've been a musician for over four decades and had owned one of the best sound stages (jazz bar) in the NW...saying that, in my honest opinion, some of Miss Abair's music sounds so commercial, killing her abilities. When a album HAS to be produced, it "mutes" the artist creativity...
I am a Massage Therapist living in Charlotte so whenever your in concert in my area and before perfoming please allow me to give you a massage or give chair massages to you and your band before going on stage. Massagingyounc@yahoo.com
