Michael Omartian

A solo artist, producer, and composer who enjoyed success in both the secular and CCM arenas, Michael Omartian first surfaced during the early '70s as a top session keyboardist, playing on albums by artists ranging from Steely Dan to the Four Tops to Loggins & Messina before making his solo debut with 1974's Myrrh label release White Horse. In 1975, he and producer Steve Barri formed the Los Angeles studio group Rhythm Heritage, topping the pop charts early the following year with their theme to the ABC television series S.W.A.T.; "Baretta's Theme (Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow)" appeared in 1976, but was the unit's last effort of note. After helming Alan O'Day's 1977 chart-topper "Undercover Angel," Omartian graduated to the top ranks of producers through his work with singer/songwriter Christopher Cross, collaborating on a series of hits including the Grammy winning "Sailing," "Ride Like the Wind," and "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)." From there, he produced sessions for Rod Stewart and Donna Summer, focusing increasingly on CCM projects in the years to follow through work with Gary Chapman, Kathy Troccoli, and 4 Him. In addition to his solo releases, Omartian also recorded several albums with his wife, Stormie. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

If you love Michael Omartian, you should get a copy of the CD 'Child of the Promise'. Michael and his wife, author Stormie Omartian, wrote this Christmas musical. Stormie wrote the words, and Mike wrote the music. It is beautiful and one of my favorite CDs of all time. BTW, Mike is my first cousin :)

The entire album White Horse is on You Tube.

I'd like to acquire the song Jeremiah by Michael again if possible
Pandora MUST secure rights to offer all of White Horse!!

I was looking for one of his out of print instrumental albums Conversation s I called his studio, he answered, talked to me for some time, then said he'd dig one up for me. Days later I got an autographed CD. I'll never forget that. My wife and I also enjoy his wife's books: The Power of a Praying Husband, The Power of a Praying Wife, etc.
I tried to find the White Horse album and could not find it anywhere! I would give anything to hear that again! Especially the song Obadiah
White Horse is his classic tour de force!

Omartian personally played the piano part on Steely Dan's "Rikki Don't Lose That Number," didn't he? It was excellent. Like David Foster, his style comes through. And yes, his powerful arrangement of "Ride Like the Wind" is a show-stopper .

Bradley, Pandora claims that "failed requests" go on a list for consideratio n , so keep requesting that old Christian vinyl. Maybe it will do some good.
Author and writer and producer during the 70's released several albums on the Christian pop charts
I've never heard of the man but "Heartbreak City" sounds good. I really wish they would finish adding the popular artists that I've heard of before, first, though such as Mylon Lefevre.
Doesn't seem to be any pre-CD stuff on here. So I would not count on old Christian vinyl ever being put on the internet.

Michael Omartian has been a major power producer in LA for decades. He's worked with and arranged for everyone from Bryan Duncan to Rod Stewart, Donna Summer, Steely Dan, Neil Diamond, Christopher Cross (who recorded with Michael & wife Stormie on a couple of songs of theirs) and even had a hand in the theme to Happy Days. This prolific artist has been at the forefront of popular music as well as lending synth help to The Second Chapter of Acts. I agree with Gary.
I hope to see Pandora get the Michael Omartian recordomg from the 1970's, "White Horse". That was outstanding music, indeed. I have not heard any of it in almost 30 uears and I still remember the music and probably most of the words.

I just Live-Searche d it and an entry in Wikipedia appeared.
