Irish tenor Michael Londra was born and raised in the small town of Wexford. He had early classical training in choirs and operas, but preferred Irish traditional music. Initially, he became a behavior therapist for people with learning disabilities and sang only part-time, but gradually he took his singing more seriously and finally had his first professional gig at the age of 31. While appearing in Dublin in JFK: A Musical Drama, he was seen by Bill Whelan, composer of Riverdance, who hired him to appear in the U.S. touring company of the show; after a year and a half on the road, he stepped into a new Broadway version. His success in America caused him to move there, settling in Chicago. On February 14, 2006, LML released Celt, his debut solo album, on which he co-wrote several of the songs. His second album, Beyond the Star, released November 3, 2009, was a Christmas collection meant to accompany his annual holiday concert tour, dubbed "A Celtic Yuletide with Michael Londra," on which he was supported by An Dóchas, a traditional Celtic band from Washington state, and the Haran Irish Dancers. His third album, The Road Not Taken, was scheduled for release in 2011. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi
