Michael Lee Firkins

Michael Lee Firkins was born in Omaha, NE. He began playing guitar at the age of 8. His first solo album was released in 1990 and he quickly began to develop a following, both in fandom and with critics. The following year, the sequel was unleashed, Cactus Cruz. In 1992, he was featured on a various-artists album, entitled Guitar Battle. He also worked that same year on the Perspective album by Jason Becker. In 2001, Firkins released Decomposition, a collection of his stylings of a number of cover songs. ~ Gary Hill, Rovi

good guitar, littl e slow, but nontheless great guitar and a new addition to my music library
Good compositions , pretty straight forward, and not overproduced or drenched in too many effects. In these respects I'd also compare Michael to Sat. I still prefer Eric Johnson to either of them, but I certainly don't have anything derogatory to say about Michael. Certainly not just a guy making noise on his guitar. A welcome addition to my YES station.

So many different opinions. I appreciate a good guitar soloist. Good clean licks. Sure it may sound and compare to others, but it's still some fine guitar playing. I like it. If it sounds like noise to you, then you're probably in the wrong category.

go bob on it and listen to somebody else
Well I gave him a thumbs down so Pandora added a different track for me and I still gotta say it's just another guy making noise.
the fact that jason becker picked mike to realize his works on perspective is im sure praise enough for him, however the comments relating him to satch is also a compliment though beyond the obvious common traits , he is a solo artists and he plays guitar that's about as far as any similarities go as far as i am concerned. mike has many traits and style adaptions that would blow most anyone away! this guy has an uncanny understandin g of pitch and a harmonic ear that is amazing
Just some guy making noise with a guitar and it bores you, huh.....WOW! Then you must truly have wax in your ears and musical taste bud that have migrated to where you sit.

This guy just moved right up my fave guitar guys list for sure..take a seat Joe Satch.LOL
Some of the comments on here are just ridiculous. It seems there's always some douche saying Another guys just making noise. If you don't like it, don't listen and go listen to Miley Cyrus hahah
This is just some guy making noise with a guitar. Boring...... . .
Truly, Unique Sound!!
prsentry
Agreed, definitely I can hear Satriani and Vai in his style

Definitely reminds me of Satriai.
like it - reminds me of joe satriani
Best tone ever! On one hand, I wish everyone could hear him, and on the other I'm glad I have this precious gem to myself and those who can appreciate such craftsmanshi p of said gem.

all you have to do is listen--ahh- - t h e sound takes your breath away--as well as your mind
Saw ML Firkins open up for Ronnie Montrose in Portland (Sept. 2011)
He is an outstanding guitarist, and his female drummer really shredded those skins.

awesome. Yes definitely has his own very identifiable sound and style. Love the Space Crickets one
these are the special gems you get with Pandora. wouldn't have stumbled on him otherwise!

awesome guitar player
I will see him open for Ronnie Montrose in Portland on 9/18/11. This will be a BAD A** SHOW!
MLF = Fresh; Precise; Great listening !
This is excellent grindage.
This guy has his own unique sound, like all the greats. When you hear him you know it's him. His guitar sounds is a little like Gary Hoey.
The "Firkenmeist e r " . . .
jolibling
I like his song Big Red the best, listening on Eric Johnson radio with Pandora
Very soothing to the ears and heart. Nice!
this is the first time for me ever hearing this guy,and i have only heard one song,thus far and what i say is this,smooth articulate runs(buttery smooth),mast e r f u l l , i ' m on my second song now,OK,JOE BONAMASA WHO'S THAT?
makerma45
Wow... just listened to Jeff Beck and then MLF came on... nice segue. Never heard of the guy but will check out his music.
Yea I like this guy he play's beutiful real melodic i like the sound of his guitar first time hearing him.
Someone gave me a cassette of his first record around 1991 or 1992. I liked it then. I think I actually like it more listening to it almost 20 years later. It really held up. I think this guy may fit into that elite category of people who came up with their own very identifiable style.
Saw MLF last fall. Has a new album out. I think it is his fifth one. Played here in Omaha a couple weeks ago (I was out of town). He uses a pick and his fingers. No slide, but uses his tremolo to sound like a slide.
wow i really like this guy, first time hearing him.
i wish he had more stuff/made it more big
Reminds me a bit of Mark Bonilla. these two together could do some serious damage
he smokes, and has absolutely no need of a lighter!

Timothy

:o)
Where is he now? It sounds like he doesnt use a pick.
rjordan55
Goosebump material!
I agree with the Mason.... MLF in a league of his own
no comparison to satch,via,gi l b e r t , malmstien
MLF has a style of his own
He and Buckethead should meet and jam
Guy has been around a bit. Has funken groove. Jam-on
ozmotron
