Vocalist/bassist Michael Henderson has enjoyed successful careers as a player and performer. He moved from Yazoo City, Mississippi to Detroit in the early '60s, and was a session player. As a 13-year-old, Henderson played bass with the Fantastic Four, Detroit Emeralds, Billy Preston, and other Motown acts in 1964 and 1965. He later toured with Stevie Wonder and Aretha Franklin before joining Miles Davis. Henderson played and toured with Davis for seven years. When he met drummer/producer Norman Connors, Henderson pitched him some songs. Connors recorded "Valentine Love" on his Saturday Night Special LP, featuring Henderson with Jean Carne. This was his vocal debut, and it reached nubmer ten on the R&B chart. Henderson wrote two other hits for the LP, "We Both Need Each Other" and "You Are My Starship," which peaked at number four.
Those successes landed Henderson his own Buddah deal in 1976, and in 1978 he got his first Top 10 R&B hit with "Take Me I'm Yours" for Buddah. Henderson recorded for Buddah from 1976 to 1983, earning his biggest hit in 1980 with "Wide Receiver," a number four hit. He moved to EMI in 1986. Henderson also recorded "Can't We Fall in Love Again" with Phyllis Hyman on her own LP, and sang with Bobby Womack and Johnnie Taylor, as well as producing the Dramatics. He also helped discover Cherrelle, who was his next door neighbor in the late '70s. She sang background and toured with him for four years. ~ Ron Wynn, Rovi
I love Michael Henderson, he is still the performer you must see; I attended a exceptional concert at Blue Alley in Georgetown Wash, DC around 2007 or 2008 it is a treasure to remember. He still can do the thang on thing. His voice is still (excellent) if not better...I am glad, I did not sleep that event. His rating for me - an exceptional outstanding talent...then and now!!
For me, NOTHING beats "At The Concert" w/Roberta Flack. My personal signature song of the 70's. I owe that brotha for all the play he paved the way for me.

My favorite Michale Henderson song is Let Me Love You, with You are my Starship next and Valentine Love coming in a close 3rd. All three are fantastic love songs, that do his voice justice.

Wow! Starship, Valentine Love, Goin Places it doesn't get any better. The memories (1978 & 79) that Michael Henderson's songs evoke are priceless.
Michael Henderson's biggest hit to me is "At The Concert". His duet with Roberta Flack. What a wonderful song this is if you haven't heard. It always brings back memories from my youth..

@stevenjones4888 : OMG, Michael is a brilliant talent! I've loved his music since the 80's & got to meet him via the net at his virtual 2010 BD party. He hung out with us for several hours & is just as warm & inviting as his music! Check out: Let Me Love You, Valentine Love, In the Night Time, Be My Girl, You Are My Starship, & dance cut Wide Receiver. You can meet him on Facebook. If you love jazz find his early work as bass guitarist w/Miles Davis! Enjoy!

I was introduced to M.H. when I was a babe of about 10yrs old. Thank goodness I had real muscians in my family unit. You have to listen to "Take me I'm yours." The vocals and the arrangment of the instruments put a shiver down my spine! WOW!

This is what a love song is supposed to sound like. Sexy without being vulgar.
I want to redo his cut, "Let Me Love You" but only if I think I can do it some justice! That has to be my song to be married with (or "Adore" by Prince").
A prolific bassist, his work with Miles Davis is still highly regarded as visionary. Too advanced for most, even today....... C h e c k him out on ON THE CORNER by Miles Davis. Not to mention his soul and funk classics! A Detroit legend......
