Michael Card began writing songs at a Kentucky college, where he would write praise choruses for a local church service. Although pushed to earn his Ph.D. by a professor, he was lured into the recording industry by friends Randy Scruggs and John Thompson, who needed a musician to record for their production company's demos. The record label insisted they produce Card's music as their first project, and his acoustic folk sound appeared from the very start; among his records was 1981's Present Reality, 1987's Life, 1993's Come to the Cradle and 1996's Brother to Brother. In 1998, he returned with Starkindler: A Celtic Conversation Across Time. ~ John Bush, Rovi
Came to my church before I moved from Austin & it was not even a huge church. Humble performer, me and my kids left little notes on his piano during breaks and he read 'em out loud and did not few ticked. I think I'll buy an album of his and send to a girl I'd tried to turn onto Dan Fogelberg in college, tell her you can get goosebumps here too, and my motives are finally pure, Aslan's friend!
Great lesson in the lyrics, the same I looked up to witness to my Dad before he died. I don't care if some Rock Purists ( is THAT an oxymoron by any chance?) wring their hands over the place of electric flute in rock. It belongs there! And still loving Fogelberg, I have graduated from hating on nuclear power and "unequalled wealth" to thanking the Lord
When I first heard The Final Word nearly 20 years ago, it touched my heart in such a deep and profound way. I became a huge fan of Michael's music and have most of his albums on CD. I just took a 4 hour driving business trip and took 3 of those CD's and sang along with each one twice - and felt God's presence. Thanks Brother!

Saw him live in 2011!!! Was great love him! My favorite song by him is EL-SHADDAI*
Michael started out wanting to do Christian music that was scripturally correct and to that he was tack on and still is. I have his 1st album (on vinyl) and it is every bit as good as his later works. Michael has remained consistent and steadfast in his career and he is great to see in concert.
Gifted insight into the problems living without ALMIGHTYGOD.

I have seen him in concert 3 or 4 times. Wonderful times of worship. He not only sings, he teaches as well. He has written a book about the book of John. I would go to his concerts again and again.
Theologically and biblically sound-"right on" brother. His character, heart and teaching brings to life the relationship of the Old and New Testament in song! His stories remind me of Father G-d's emmence love for his children and convey a sence of true peace.

Theologically sound, artfully crafted songs and gentle Christ like Spirit
Card is one of the best song writers of the last 30 years.

Anyone know the name of the song that Michael Card sang at Andrew Peterson's Christmas show in Nashville this last Christmas? I haven't been able to find it. It talked about offering our suffering as sacrifice.

May I suggest the album "Starkindler?" It's a recording that brilliantly shows his composing talent and folk-style sound. I wish it were included on the Discography.
Might also mention Michael Card's influence on an exploding growth of Christian music. For example El Shadai was popularized in Amy Grant's breakthough album Age to Age. Blessings!

I love his folk sound, but best of all is the way he brings superior praise to God. His music is beautifully God centered.

WOW! I finally hear him for myself! I've heard a few of his songs recorded by others...but to hear the humble servant himself...WOW! What an incredibly blessed ministry in song! If I do not have the opportunity to dialogue and duet with him down here...I'll look for him on the Sea of Glass around God's throne on that Great Day! Praise the Lord!
God has gifted Michael with music that is sound doctrinely, has wonderful melody; he's also a wonderful teacher...heard him at Bryan College while he was doing a chapel series.Found his music in the early 80's..."The Dragonslayer". He's a transparent person, honest and open, and his radio broadcast "In the Studio" is always a blessing to hear.
I hadn't heard Michael Card before seeing him in concert... sometime in the early 90s. I'm not normally impressed by Christian performers whom I'm not familiar with. I'm a tough, honest music critic & just because an artist sings good uplifting songs of faith doesn't make them great.. unless they honestly are. Michael Card impressed me immensely! His guitar playing; voice; quality of songs; & faith are all top-notch.
I highly recommend his music to both believer & nonbeliever. It transcends.
