Its not that they sold out; its just that Lars just can't play anything that's hard. James can't growl and yell. He just sounds old. And they don't have the energy to play those long 5-10 minute songs anymore. Shorter song structures are easier.

Say what you want about this song, but as a high schooler who listened to mainstream rock, this song was my gateway to metal.
I hate when people say bands have sold out. It gets boring after a while making the same kind of music over, over and over. Bands that do different things completly hold my respect. People like that is why all music sounds the same now-a-days because bands are afraid to branch out and be creative.

This song doesn't suck, it's just not nearly the caliber of their earlier albums (anything from black back). Play "Fade to Black", then listen to this. Don't you hear the difference guys? Maybe you just don't have anything left to say. Too bad, because you guys were the best and defined a generation with angst, pain, suffering, pleasure, joy and absolute bliss. I just miss the old Metallica.
