Techno-pop band from Spain Mecano was formed in the early '80s by brothers Nacho and José María Cano, who were joined by singer Ana Torroja. While Spanish New Wave, known as Movida Madrileña, was at its highest level of popularity, Mecano burst into the local scene with "Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar," a single released by CBS in 1981. They issued "Perdido En Mi Habitación" that same year. Mecano's debut album was presented live at Madrid's Palace Hotel in March of 1982. Soon after, the band started touring the country, having Javier de Juan playing drums and Manolo Aguilar on bass. In 1983, Nacho Cano began composing for other acts, starting with Rubin's "Me He Enamorado De Un Fan," also producing a band called Betty Troupe and working along with La Unión. Later, José María Cano started songwriting for local stars such as Ana Belén and Massiel. In 1986, a touching ballad called "Me Cuesta Tanto Olvidarte" hit the charts all over Latin America. The following year, Mecano's "Cruz de Navajas" was voted Best Song of the Year in Spain. In addition, the French version of the group's "Mujer Contra Mujer" (Une Femme Avec Une Femme) remained on the top of the most important music charts in France for seven weeks. After Mecano's exhaustive 1991 worldwide tour, the band's members finally decided to go on their own. ~ Drago Bonacich, Rovi
Oh, Mecano!!!

Growing up in the states, I was not expose all that much to the Latin music but when I first hear Mecano, I knew it would be one of those groups that I will forever love. These songs take me back to my early teens and traveling all over Mexico.

I purchased "Entre El Cielo" and "Descanso Dominical" when I was a Senior in High School. It brings sweet memories from back then! Listening to them now. Their sound was delightful and playful. The Original Salsa track inside 'Aidalai' and "Fallo Positivo" is extraordinary! A must! "Cruz de Navajas" is a classic!!!! Mecano is a Classic in itself.
Yes, and , futhermore, they weren't digitally remastered! I have new , remastered albums and they sound as the artists inteded them to sound. It strikes me as a tragedy that Nacho and JM didn't take the time to remaster before reissuing them. As such, I listen to them on Pandora and don't purchase the CD's.
The discography dates are incorrect. These marked as 2005 albums were reissued that year but they are all from the 80s and 90s. Mecano: 1982; ?Donde Esta El Pais de las Hadas?: 1983; Ya Viene El Sol: 1984; Entre El Cielo y El Suelo: 1986; Descanso Dominical: 1988; Aidalai: 1991 (source: zonamecano.c o m ) All you need do is listen to the samples and you can hear the sound of the era in which they were recorded.
