Matt Costa

Born in Huntington Beach, California, in 1982, Matt Costa received his first guitar at age 12. While he was always interested in music, even playing in a band in high school, Costa's first love was skateboarding. His dreams of going pro came crashing to an end, however, when he seriously injured his leg in a skateboarding accident at 18. During his year-and-a-half-long rehabilitation period, Costa decided to refocus his energy on songwriting and guitar playing, and began using a four-track to make demos. One of these demos found its way to No Doubt guitarist Tom Dumont, who liked what he heard so much that he offered to produce Costa's music, and soon they had recorded two independently released EPs, Matt Costa and The Elasmosaurus, as well as a full-length early version of Songs We Sing. These caught the ear of Brushfire Records owner Jack Johnson, who was impressed by the young musician's work and signed Costa to his label and invited him to open his 2005 summer tour. In 2006, Costa's official major-label debut, Songs We Sing (slightly different from the 2005 indie version), was released. Unfamiliar Faces arrived in 2008, followed by Mobile Chateau in 2010. In 2013, Costa returned with an orchestral and '70s AM pop-influenced self-titled album. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi

:) :) :) awesome
the fact that you guys are discussing jack johnson on MATT COSTA music. Means that 1. He's doing his job because negative or positive attention it's still attention. 2. More people who don't know who jack johnson and see your little bickers will now be like hey who is he?!>?! 3. I can put more money on people listening to his music and liking it than the other way around. A good artist is a good artist and won't ever take into account your negativity.
you think Matt is good you should check out my band My Morning Boner
Matt Costa: Skateboarder + Musician= Mega Stoner =Great Music :)

I love his songs. :)
Wtf I was born on Huntington Beach ._. Small world!!! Haha that pretty cool :)
Don't read this because it actually works. You will be kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of you life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However if you don't post this you will die in 2 days. Now you've started reading so don't stop. This is so scary put this on at least 5 songs in 143 minutes. When done press f6 and your lover's name will come on the screen in big letters. This is so scary because it actually works
Sounds like something I would like to hear in the background.

I like this song, but it's sounds just like another song that was popular in he 70's. ...when the weather is high... by Mungo Jerry

Matt Costa first time hearing him! Liking his voice;)
Got to see Costa open for Ryan Adams and Oasis at Staples Center back in 2006 of course I was there to see Oasis but Costa ended up been the best part for me. The crowd booed him and told him to get off the stage but he just played it cool and did his thing. Completely won me over on how cool he played it it out, he did his set and went on his way. Great melody and catchy songs with some folksy pop that rings true and will stay in your head for a long time. I love Songs We Can Sing

Right!?!?! (@Cece S )
what is with all the rudeness like u r pros or something
Another soldier in the hipster army. Music is lacking any originality.

i dont think any of you guys have the right to judge anybodys music. everybody writes to express themselves, and for anybody to preform criticism on anybodys music obviously has no understandin g of true music. these are all good artists. hold your personal opinion to yourself please. after all, these people are not writing music to please you.

wtf? pandoras been around for 4 years?
Since we're talking about Jack Johnson, yes he puts me to sleep.
Very good.

Chill out vickyenyon. He can state his mild opinion. Plus J. Johnson is overrated.
@Michael Kemp...yes, Jack Johnson lacks any musical diversity whatsoever.
Cool cat..Super down to earth
I am an award winning fiction writer and have a degree in English. Am I allowed to say Jack Johnson is terrible? Just checking.
More atmospheric than Johnson - more dynamic. I can't listen to Johnson very long before it all starts to sound alike. This guy is really good, along the lines of Iron and Wine.
colopay calm it down he does have his own children station and is a little over appreciated by every wanna be hipster because he makes music just catchy music not revolutionar y poetry hes fine just not walt whitman

Sorry, but Jack Johnson does not sing kiddie songs as his job. His songwriting has some of the most mature, deep, and poetic lyrics out there; and I do not lay down that title lightly as a writer and literary intaker. So please, Vickenyon, do not post insulting things on these forums that only represent your presumptions about music you obviously know very little about.
this is waaaaay more mature than any kiddie songs jack (off) johnson makes. although i have to say, i'm afraid to thumbs up which will result in j.off.johnns o n playing on my station.

also, sounds more like coconut records to me ...
jack johnson is better but he's pretty good its funny how bad things can turn out good.
