Maserati

Yet another of the Athens, GA experimentalists, Maserati picked up where bands like Tortoise, Macha, and Labradford left off with complex, warmly textured instrumental music straying from the confines of rock to explore the ambient, jazz, and even modern classical traditions. The four-piece of Coley Dennis (guitar), Steve Scarborough (bass), Phil Horan (drums), and Matt Cherry (guitar) began playing together in early 2001. After several months, they recorded and self-released 37:29:24, a moody blend of space rock expansiveness and scatter-bursts of Slint-like aggression. In 2002, they met again in producer Andy Baker's Chase Park studio (where albums by Macha, the Mendoza Line, and Jucifer have been recorded) to record The Language of Cities, the band's first label-backed album on the indie pop clearinghouse Kindercore. The eight-song album continued their exploration of emo-tinged instrumental rock best exemplified by the track "The Language," a seven-plus-minute opus of sustained cymbal buildups, churning guitar, and John McEntire-style fills. In 2005, Jerry Fuchs replaced Phil Horan on drums. After signing to Temporary Residence in 2007, Maserati released Inventions for the New Season, which was followed by two remix albums. After starting on their next full-length, in 2009, tragedy struck when Fuchs suffered a freak accident and fell to his death in an elevator shaft. Carrying on, the rest of Maserati pushed through to finish the album. It was released in 2010 and named Pyramid of the Sun after a song Fuchs had conceived in his tour journal. In the years that followed Fuchs' passing, the band acquired new drummer Mike Albanese and worked out a new set of songs for 2012's Maserati VII. ~ Daphne Carr, Rovi

This music is a great compliment to God is an Astronaut! Powerful rock melodies with ambient space rock vibes. Great music to just sit back and chill to.
This is probably one of my favorite bands of all time, & I'm only 12. They have very calming and melodic music, and is absoloutly fantastic. Inventions For the New Season is my favorite album. Highly recommend it. :)

Pandora needs to update the biography of the band. Maserati's drummer for the past few years has been the amazing Jerry Fuchs. Jerry passed away in November 2009 by a tragic accident. RIP Jerry. :(
Saw them last night live and it was an amazing experience. by far one of my favorite live shows as of late.
what's with the "real music" thing? just because you may not like a piece of music does not make it anything less than that - music. Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, as well as his ears.
it is good to know that real music is out there. Maserati is a prime example of this.
one of my favorite local bands here in athens. very creative.

Maserati's new drummer is Gerry Fuchs, who is some kind of titan, if not a god.

Seeing this band live has changed my life.
So crisp. Music is so lovely.
Not a big fan of Tristeza. Maserati blends their sound much better than Tristeza.
I would highly recommend the band Tristeza to anybody who digs Maserati. It's similarly subdued while still being complex and thoughtful.
Maserati puts together a sound that indicate a group of guys/gals that communicate & work well together. Experimentin g with many instruments to reach and fulfill the sonic variances required/des i r e d for each recording. Each of the two LP's listed has a cohesiveness which reflect their growth as artist. Both albums show metamorphosi s , from one to the other.

I look forward to the next release!
To bromide01,
What band doesn't in some way, reflect back that which has been heard? Who is truly creative for that matter? None but the Lord God Allmighty!

Interesting. If listening to bands that sound like other bands is interesting.
