I believe it's talking about her ( the mom) using the 4th of July as her own Independence day. It's the day she freed herself & her daugher from the abusive father. At least that the way I see it.
They play this song on conservative radio here between commericials, I assume to display patriotic music. I wish they would listen to the lyrics, it's not about US Independence, its about freedom from domestic violence!!!!
