This Hendrix-influenced power trio from Montreal comprised guitarist Frank Marino, bassist Paul Harwood and drummer Jim Ayoub. The band released albums throughout the '70s, including Maxoom (1972), Child of the Novelty (1974), Strange Universe (1975), Mahogany Rush IV (1976), World Anthem (1977), Live (1978) and Tales of the Unexpected (1979). The band became known as Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush after 1980's What's Next, then simply Frank Marino after Jim Ayoub left. ~ John Bush, Rovi
I was introduced to this band in 1973 and was blown away. I have most of MR's albums and each one is noteworthy.

Weak bio for a band that was this good. It may not have had wide spread commercial success but there were few people who liked them just a little bit. Got to see them about six times and each show wowed me. Requiem for a Sinner is still agreat album. It appears like Pandora does not have it in their collection though.
one of the best, and most underrated guitarist ever.creative as hendrix, smoothas trower,a true classic player.

Where have all the great guitar players gone, not one of these new kids today can stand up to Marino, Trower, Uli, Travers etc etc etc.......................................
Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush performed the best concert I have seen in my life. Armadillo World Headquarters was an old Texas National Guard armory with no air conditioning and just old carpets on the floor in front of the stage. The concert was in the hottest part of August, but everyone forgot about the heat soon after the concert started. Three hours later, drenched in sweat, I had seen an amazing guitarist perform a truly amazing set. The concert had everything!

I saw MR in Portland around 1975 and they only played 3 songs but blew everyone away, I believe they closed with Red House. The highlight was Frank playing 3 simultaneous guitar tracks, simply amazing. The headliner at that show may have been Alvin Lee and Co.
I love his stuff too...but best alive...I'd like to see a head cutting contest w/ Jeff Beck...that would be something. My money would be on Jeff Beck going in but, it would be a very modest wager...
Not just another Hendrix clone-Frank Marino stands on his own as one of the best rock guitarist of all time. If you were at Cal. Jam 2 Mahogany Rush stole the show....Awesome.
