Since their inauspicious beginnings around the year 2000, Sweden's Machinae Supremacy have tried to do things differently; starting off with a relatively "normal" power metal foundation before infusing it with technological gadgetry, old and new, in a bid to shake up the heavy metal landscape. In a nutshell, the group frequently infuses their otherwise analog-based music with 8-bit sounds derived from an SiD chip, of the sort commonly found in personal computers from the 1980s, such as the Commodore 64. As a result, the group's style has been conveniently labeled "SiD metal," even though their use of electronics isn't nearly as overt as, say, California's Horse the Band, whose "Nintendo-core" is positively strewn with sounds reminiscent of the golden age of video games. Having said that, the members of Machinae Supremacy -- singer Robert Stjärnströ, guitarists Jonas Rörling and Kahl Hellmer, bassist Andreas Gerden, and drummer Tomas Nilsén -- are also avid gamers, and along with their proper debut album of 2004, Deus Ex Machinae, the group recorded a full-length soundtrack for a video game called Jets'n'Guns, later the same year. The band was subsequently signed by Spinefarm Records, but decided to scale back the electronics somewhat for their next release, Redeemer; demoting the SiD sounds to more of a supporting role, while continuing to take chances by embracing surprisingly commercial and infectious pop nuances. This daring creative direction was explored even further on their next album, Overworld, which also broke in new bassist Andreas Gerden, and was released through Spinefarm in February 2008. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia, Rovi
Any chance of getting the other albums from Machinae Supremacy? I know they have a few web albums, but I really want a bit more variety from them. Love these guys, but was disappointed by only having one album to browse.
Stumbled upon MaSu some eight years ago. Every song they had created was available for free download on their website. After a quick listen of 'Kings of the Scene' and 'Hubnester Inferno' I was hooked. The music is quirky, upbeat, unique, and completely rocking. They quickly became my favorite band and have remained so ever since. Crashed a car while listening to 'Fury', have gone on countless road trips with Deus Ex Machinae, and my Overworld CD is wearing thin. Great stuff.
mmkniceley
Machinae Supremacy remains one of my top three band even after 4 years. You can still download all their old songs on their website. They are an amazing band and I recommend it to all heavy metal and industrial fans. At least try it.
is this the same machine supremecy that had the songs "bouff" and... something else that i forget the name of right now... in the DDR style video game "In the Groove"?
8 years ago, a friend suggested I check out this band, and my socks remain rocked.
I have at least 3 MaSu CDs in my car's 6-disc changer at all times. Currently: (1) DXM 2.0/Redeemer UE mix disc, plus Ghost from Redeemer RE; (2) Overworld (Fscking. Epic. Period.); (3) Webography mix disc, including the SIDology tracks; (4) Mix disc of video game tracks, 13 from Jets'n'Guns GOLD; (5 and 6) Not sure what's in there presently, they change every week or so.
Unbelievable band. I have listened to Deus Ex Machinae, Redeemer, and Overworld to death. Ouch, my wallet, but still, as irriadin says, they're worth every penny. It's just fantastic that, even though they signed with Spinefarm they're still able to maintain creative control. Props to you guys for that one. Legendary!
I wish they still had their original line of clothing from the days of their old site, though.
Some of the only metal I'll listen to, though I'm not sure quite why. It took me a good while to get used to the lead vocalist's voice, but now I don't think anything else would fit. They get oddly paired with Visa Roster in my mind, because I found them both through SLAYradio and the c64 scene.

I agree: we need more MaSu on Pandora!

C'mon Pandora! Show some more love for MaSu!
