Loggins & Messina

Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina were the most successful pop/rock duo of the first half of the '70s. Loggins was a staff songwriter who had recently enjoyed success with a group of songs recorded by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band when he came to the attention of Messina, a record producer and former member of Buffalo Springfield and Poco. Messina agreed to produce Loggins' first album, but somewhere along the way it became a duo effort that was released in 1972 under the title Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina Sittin' In. The album was a gold-seller that stayed in the charts more than two years.

In the next four years, Loggins & Messina released a series of gold or platinum albums, most of which hit the Top Ten. They were all played in a buoyant country-rock style with an accomplished band. Loggins & Messina (1972) featured the retro-rock hit "Your Mama Don't Dance." Full Sail (1973), On Stage (a double live album, 1974), and Mother Lode (1974) all hit the Top Ten. So Fine was an album of '50s cover songs. The pair's last new studio album, Native Sons, came out at the start of 1976.

Loggins & Messina split for two solo careers by the end of that year, their early catalog completed by a greatest-hits album, Best of Friends, and a live record, Finale. The duo reunited in 2005 and hit the road for a summer tour while the compilation The Best: Sittin' in Again was arriving in stores. The tour itself was documented on Live: Sittin' in Again at Santa Barbara Bowl, which appeared late in the year. ~ William Ruhlmann, Rovi

Where is Native Son??!!! Their Best!
I saw them back in the 70's with Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan at Nassau Collisium New York. It was my first ever concert. It still to this day was one of the best.
why are they in an attic?
I slow danced to House at Pooh Corner at summer camp in the early 80's. Great music and even better memories.
CLASSICS IV, ANYONE?
loggins and messina
Seems like these guys do not get much recognition for what a huge impact they had in the 70's. There were several years there when you couldn't listen to the radio for very long without hearing one of their tunes.
Seems like a different world doesn't it? Thanks guys, great talents...
What ever happened to Jon Clarke - - sax?
I remember seeing Fleetwood Mac for $15. The good ol days, huh?

Saw them again for the 5th+ time last year. Loggins rocked it with gospel inspired singing, and Messina is as consummate a guitarist and harmonist as ever!!! Back up band was awesome!

Love Angry Eyes (long-play jam version)
These guys' music spilled out of just about every dorm room door during my early college years! What great memories.
Graduated from high school in 1976. Younger people don't realize how big these guys were in their heyday. Seems like there was a several year stretch there where you couldn't listen to the radio for very long without hearing one of their songs. For what they did, they did it very well.
I LOVE THAT GROUP, BUT MY FAVORITE IS ANGRY EYES

One of my all time favorite groups. The musical skills of each member of L. And M are incredible, multiple instruments and incredible creativity! Just great fun music!

please don't play music by this artist
I have always appreciated the band that backs them up. The instrumental sections in some of the songs are great!
I saw Loggins & Messina last night at Casino Morongo! Absolutely spectacular show. While I am a fan of the group I was curious as to whether they had lost their sparkle. They are as good as ever and it was one of the best concerts I have seen. It was good to see Kenny and Jimmy on stage again having a great time playing their music. Thank you for the experience!!
check out the recent dvd / cd from the Hollywood Bowl (Sittin' in Again") - they sound than ever !
loggins and messina more greats from the 70"s &80's

I love these guys. Saw them in 1972. Missed them during their reunion tour a couple of years ago but picked up the cd and dvd of that tour. Unfortunatel y it seems that was a one shot deal. Would have been nice to hear some new material from these two. Hopefully they will decide to get back together once more in the future.
