Vocalist Lizz Wright delivers a sultry R&B performance that's divinely layered in gospel and jazz, and keenly similar to the work of Oleta Adams and Jill Scott. Wright was born in 1980 in the Georgia town of Hahira, and her musical tastes blossomed early on. Her father served as the pianist and musical director at the local church, and he encouraged his daughter to absorb the soulful dispositions of classic hymns. Eventually, blues and jazz were added to Wright's musical plate, and by high school she was earning awards in countless choir competitions. Wright was coming into her warm, smooth singing voice, so her decision to attend Georgia State in Atlanta to study voice at a professional level wasn't surprising. Atlanta became her home and her voice became her solace. In 2000, Wright joined the vocal quartet In the Spirit. The group was quickly hailed as the best jazz group in the city, motivating Wright to hone her craft all the more. Two years later, Verve inked Wright a deal. Her impressive singing style was captured on her debut, Salt, the following spring. Dreaming Wide Awake followed in June 2005. After making a guest appearance on the Toots Thielemans album One More for the Road in 2006, Wright released her third album, The Orchard, in 2008. In 2010, Wright returned with Fellowship, featuring guest performances from bassist Me'Shell Ndegéocello and vocalist Angélique Kidjo. ~ MacKenzie Wilson, Rovi

I definitely see the link with Mississippi's Gold Cassandra Wilson. Lizz Write's music and voice is amazing and so is Cassandra's.
Um, Jill Scott sounds nothing like Lizz Wright. It bothers me when writers lump all soul singers together. Oleta Adams, yes. Kellylee Evans, yes. Regina Bell, yes. Jill Scott, no.
Bought this artist's CD after a review by Ed Bradley. Think she is just fantastic. And although I have bought her 2 CD's, have not purchased Salt yet. Would love to see her at the Thrasher Opera House in Green Lake, WI.
biiiig fan she is soooooo great glad we can hear this voice!!! yay us!

I heard her right as she released Salt too. I couldn't believe the depth of her knowledge and feelings as she was only 22. How could someone so young write such amazingly deep music. Hope to see her again soon.
I continue to be amazed by the soulful, sultry sound of Lizz Wright. I try to see her Live every chance I get.

Have followed her since I first heard her in 2004 singing Salt. Salt was a spirit-filled album. Glad I heard it first. Her voice and sound is it's own and seeing her in concert filled my spirit with an elation no other has ever done. Hope she never let the music industry take her pureness away.

Lizz Wright's singing puts me into a trance. A true artist indeed!
First time I've ever heard of her-after looking up the singer in a David Sanborn tune on Pandora. I WILL add her to my CD selections--she's too good to pass up.

stumbling upon Lizz Wright's CD at an office supply store and buying it voice unheard was one of the life enhancing things I've done. What a voice!
I think one of my wonderful vocalist children put Lizz on my stations. I thank them whole-heartedly. This is nice.

I absolutely adore Lizz Wright, she is mesmerizing in so many ways. I've listened to The Orchard, countless times. It is a shame such artist as her are not more recognized in the music world.I've promoted her to everyone I know.

I fell in love with Lizz Wright the day before 'SALT' was released. I came across snippets of the CD on Verve Music site. It has been unrelenting joy to witness the musical journey of this young woman. My most enjoyable music experience was Lizz Wright live at Shuba's in Chicago. Front row center was heaven that night. To hear 'Blue Rose' and 'Thank You' live....there are no words to describe how beautiful that was! Every song, every note was eupohoria. Thank YOU, Lizz.

stunning, haunting. the ella tune she covers touched me so, so deeply.
I saw her in concert. What an artist. She says some believe she created "country jazz". I say she's more of a mix between Norah Jones and Sade. Beautiful, simply beautiful! It's time for another album from her.
my husband bought the SALT cd a few months after it came out. it took me about 3 more months before i finally started listening to it. i havent let lizz go since then! she has an amazing voice--it gives me goosebumps! what a God-given talent! much success to her ALWAYS!
