Based in Brooklyn, vocalist Lisa Lisa (born Lisa Velez) and her supporting band, Cult Jam (Mike Hughes and Alex "Spanador" Moseley), were one of the most consistent dance-pop/R&B groups of the mid-'80s. Hughes and Mosley were also members of Full Force, the funk group that performed and produced the majority of Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam's albums.
Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam recorded their debut single, "I Wonder if I Take You Home," soon after forming in 1985, releasing it as an independent single. The group quickly signed to Columbia Records, which re-released the single; it climbed into the R&B Top Ten and the U.K. Top 20. The group amassed a number of hit songs throughout the '80s, yet by the end of the decade their success had begun to dry up; they disbanded after 1991's Straight Outta Hell's Kitchen. Lisa Lisa embarked on a solo career, releasing the commercially unsuccessful LL 77 in 1993. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, Rovi
If I take you Home. Honey, if you take me home, I'm staying home with you. I think my heart would ABSOLUTELY love it because to my soul you are my home anyway. For my Portuguese Angel From Heaven. I would stay until the end of the Universe. I'm definitely a one man woman that's for sure. That's the way God made me. I'm a keeper. I love this song.
My cousin looked just like Lisa Velez back in the day, she even shaved the sides of hair and dressed like her! I used to be so jealous. However, she told me she was jealous of my natural curls as she had to get spiral perms to get the big aqua net hairstyle I had. Oh, the memories <3
92.5(san diego) hosted a Freestyle Concert with some of the old school singers such as Debbie Deb, Connie, Trinere, Stacy Q, and of corse my favs, Lisa Lisa and Stevie B!!! :) Awesome, concert even though I was 6 when they were all in their prime, I still remember all the lyrics. Too bad kids these days have Lil Wayne and Nikki Manaj as their childhood beats. :/
