A sort of instrumental prog-rock/prog-metal supergroup, Liquid Tension Experiment features Dream Theater's John Petrucci (guitar) and Mike Portnoy (drums), keyboardist Jordan Rudess (who has worked with the Dixie Dregs and has since joined Dream Theater), and bassist extraordinaire Tony Levin (King Crimson, Peter Gabriel, and many others). The group issued its self-titled debut in 1998 on the Magna Carta label and regrouped the following year for Liquid Tension Experiment 2. ~ Steve Huey, Rovi
They also have two other albums one without john petrucci while recording LTE2 (john's wife was pregnant). The second one is riddiculously good. It's a reunion show in chicago where Jordan's keyboard broke. They then proceed tom just jam for 1:30... jawdropping! It's called When the Keyboard Breaks: Live in Chicago (reference to when the water breaks on LTE2)
There is so much awesome music in the world that I couldn't keep up with...Thank Pandora for turning me on to so much cool music. Been a big Prog fan for 40 years and just found out about LTE!
Tony Levin is by far the best musician/person in LTE. In his fifties (when these albums came out) and is still one of the best in the world, even going on seventy.
Hmm... I'd be thrilled to play some LTE on RB3 someday. It's a challenge, but this is so energetic. Not to mention it would get some more publicity for some of the members that played this, more knowledge for the bands they were previously in.
If you like this Dream Theater is just as awesome, for the most cause they have most of same members like Jordan Rudess, John Petrucci, and mike portnoy

Heard Paradigm Shift and bought both albums from iTunes....John Petrucci is one of the most amazing guitarist I have ever heard. !
This group only did 2 albums ('98 and '99) and are not a continuing project. They hadn't done anything for ten years before Mike left DT and I've heard nothing of any more material from them.
A friend let me borrow LTE a few years ago and was blown away. Wish they could release more material other the the Trio stuff out takes. I bet there are tapes laying around from the old sessions that would still sound better that most other stuff out there.
ROFL everyones all ripping on millar43 for mentioning Dragonforce because LTE came first... uh... I think if 2 bands can have a child, time travel isn't really the issue here... XD
