The Lines

English post-punk band the Lines first recorded in 1977 and released their last material in 1983, quietly leaving a pair of albums -- Therapy (October 1981) and Ultramarine (March 1983) -- and a handful of singles and EPs in their wake. Fairly indifferent to the press, affiliated with a very small label, and, despite connections to Alternative TV, Prag Vec, and Fad Gadget, not part of any scene, the Lines gained a small and fervent following, and their releases remained obscure until the Acute label's 2008 reissues. Memory Span, released in May, compiled single and EP material; Flood Bank, released in November, contained all but one song from the band's two albums. Vocalist and guitarist Rico Conning assisted with the discs; after the Lines broke up, he had remained involved with music, engineering and mixing for the likes of Swans and Depeche Mode and working closely with William Orbit. ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi

Their following was small because most people rejected their lack of talent
they're fabulous.
These guys are impossibly good. How they never made it big is a mystery. They remind me of the The Dead, Ten Years After, Weather Report, Love, and The Doors, though their sound is unique. After discovering them on Pandora, bought both albums. The range of their songs is impressive. They are brilliant. And some of the sounds they make are laugh-out-lo u d funny self-parodie s . They obviously didn't take themselves too seriously, another mark of real artists.
Love Pandora for the fact that I can still be surprised with such a find as "THE LINES". A big fan out the late 70s/early 80's pre new wave bands and NEVER heard of these guys. Song Ursa Minor is simply BRILLIANT!
Ah, no, anybody heard of a guy named Miles D.
It sounds like Les Claypool heard these guys a long time ago, and took a little page from their book to me.
Chalk it up to "being ahead of their time." Reminds me of a few early "punk/new wave" bands. Wire, Gang of Four, etc.
It's funny when a band seems cutting edge and contemporary . . . a n d ends up being just a long forgotten f*rt in the wind.
Its a good sound. they remind me of a band..... a good band.... ??? dont you hate that? I like this band though this is the first time ive heard them. im glad i got to hear this.thanks to pandora.
whoa! haven't heard these guys till just now, amazing!
