How is Carmichael's Stardust a tribute to Gershwin?
I heard Les Brown with Bob Hope at Bien Hoa AFB in 1965. His arrangements were outstanding - as always. Jack Jones and Joey Heatherton were along. Dave Pell, Ray Sims, Stumpy Brown, Butch Stone - it was a great band. We also danced to them at Hershey Park Ballroom in the 50's.
Bob Hope brought his troupe to Lackland AFB in 1951 and Les Brown Wowed us with his great music. Later went to Oakland Armory and listened to a whole concert by him and the great guys, including Ray Sims on trombone.

I have danced to Les Brown's band when he was touring colleges. This evokes great memories... Bob
Les Brown is one of my favorite band leaders_first heard Doris Day sing sentimental journey on returning from Military Service in WW11. They played it incessantly on the 12 day stormy voyage--- Ilove the song!
You can never have too many versions of Stardust. Love that clarinet, brass and piano. Very moving.

One of the greatest sounds of the big band era. I had the opportunity to see Les Brown perform at a "street dance" in San Diego near the end of his career. It was something I'll never forget.
The Brown band is my favorite of all time. Nice clean arrangements - fine tasty jazz choruses - a friendly man with a wonderful band.

one of the great big bands of the big band era, in my view. This "Lover" is wonderful, so is Leap Frog, I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm, and all Les Brown tunes.

I learned to dance to "I've got my love to keep me warm". My date was very patient and I finally got the beat for jitterbug and have loved dancing ever since. When I hear that song, it brings back wonderful memories.
