This is such a flawless version. Page's acoustic playing off of JPJ's electric mandolin is just astounding. Plant is sheer joy as he weave the whole thing together. Great fun to watch on the DVD also. Great set here.
They won the west and beyond , years from now a whole new generations of fans will be introduce to one the greatest music that Led Zeppelin shared with us.
I completely agree - this is their most beautiful version of California... this version is completely amazing; but then again, everything zeppelin did was amazing. I'll hear a new b-side track every once & a while on the Zep staion here on pandora - they will do that at least. cheers!

Drew, My thoughts exactly on the rhythm.JPJ is a very talented musician overall. Notice though that he actually harmonizes with Page on some rudimentary leads. Sounds great! I've sen them 2-3 times live and it was rarely this tight. Good stuff.
I take it John Paul Jones was the one playing the rhythm acoustic guitar, with Jimmy Page on the electric lead - that part doesn't sound like a mandolin to me but I find it easy to believe that pandora isn't able to recognize an instrument, when played.
Mmm, this is one of my favorite Led Zeppelin song. This is a beautiful acoustic Led Zeppelin song including acoustic guitar/mandolin duet on this song. There is no drums on this song.
Steve, this was recorded in the summer of '72. This is a good version, but as far as live versions go, I prefer the one on BBC Sessions (from '71) b/c Robert's voice is stronger and clearer there.
