Julie London

A sultry, smoky-voiced master of understatement, Julie London enjoyed considerable popularity during the cool era of the 1950s. London never had the range of Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughan, but often used restraint, softness, and subtlety to maximum advantage. An actress as well as a singer, London played with heavyweights like Gregory Peck and Rock Hudson in various films, and was married to Jack Webb of Dragnet fame for seven years before marrying songwriter Bobby Troup ("Route 66"). London performed her biggest hit, "Cry Me a River," in the Jayne Mansfield film The Girl Can't Help It. After recording her last album, Yummy, Yummy, Yummy, in 1969, she continued to act -- playing a nurse on the NBC medical drama Emergency from 1974-1978. Despite her "sex symbol" image -- London was known for her sexy LP covers, which make them collector's items -- she was surprisingly shy, and left show biz altogether in the late '70s. In the mid-'90s London suffered a stroke, which led to a half-decade of poor health and ultimately contributed to her death on October 18, 2000. ~ Alex Henderson, Rovi

LOVE HER STYLE!
I believe that she does not get the credit that is her due. She blows Peggy Lee out of the water.
I think I'm just fine with London's range. Don't need a sledge hammer for every job and Julie brought the right tools to every piece she sang.
Can pandora write some more extensive info in her Bio? She's worth it!
Absolute perfection. I love her voice.
Hop HOP Loud- ( pounding bass ) music reigns today why ? Young folks spend tons on music - CD's - concerts
Powerful Radio personality Howard Miller ' ended ' her career when she left him
She just,...is perfect. My generation is too caught up in all this rap and hip hop stuff, that they can't even recognize a amazing genre when they see one..
Whew what a hot version of Sway she sings! The sexiness of it just jumps right out at you! Such a gorgeous, classy woman.

I don't smoke, but I'm in total agreement with terri's point of view.

Selected discography of 4 out of 32 :P
Perfection in so many ways...
Body wise, she's like a red headed Marilyn Monroe. Voice wise, she's perfect.
Gorgeous voice I remember her she was one the rare voices and was so pure.
I player poker with her at Ole Miss in 1960
oh jeez i'm speechlessly in awe.
When a voice such as Julie London's can be appreciated over time for its beauty, grace and depth, its the highest compliment one can get.

Why can't we have music like this now? When singers had real, pure, raw talent? RIP
Growing up in the fifties I remember her singing Scotch and Soda, no one could sing it like that. Sometimes as a young lad her music would come on before the movie of the evening at our local theater. Her singing brings me back to some very beautiful times in my life. I played in the local high school dance band, and I always dreamed of backing her up on any song. Never happened of course. RIP my icon of woman singers.

The only thing I regret was not loving this women and enjoying her as I do now when I was younger. If only you knew Julie how still today, we love you. Rest in peace. I love you.
She can sing. And she is so hot, hotter than a steak off a 1,000,000,00 0 0 , 0 0 0 grill.

If you like Julie London, then you should try to listen to Michael Franks. Not the same gender, I know but if one likes Julie, Franks has eerily similar qualities, undeniable. You should try ...

What a Sexy and Beautiful Lady.
Love her voice and style !
emergency!!! ! ! ! ! ! !
I was a radio DJ during the 50's and played her songs a lot...she will always be the epitomy of sultry...and looked good on those album covers too.
What a beautiful and talented woman she was. None of the talents today come even close. She and Doris Day are in a class of their own that will never be surpassed.
Julie London brings back memories of when my wife a I were first married 50 years ago
Back in the mid 60's I was attending a jazz festival at Cobo Hall in Detroit MI. I was returning from a break and was passing a bar inside Cobo and someone said, Julie London was up next. The bar cleared in record time.
As Bobby Troup once said, She really didn't know how good she was. I have probably all her albums and nobody - NOBODY - comes close.

Rod Stewarts version of Fly Me To The Moon is better
