On first listen, thought it was Kansas. Steve Morse played with them and Rudess. Interesting listening to the commonality. Cool classical/pr o g r e s s i v e interchange of sounds.
I love prog because it takes you on an emotional journey,it is truly the language of heaven! I love JR!
I wish some people stop saying he is jimi hendrix on keyboards he is a great technical musician but he has no feel.
Jimi was blues and r&b and create funk rock know black rock or hard rock. R&b side funkadelic style.
@Evader That is the case with a lot of bios. Sometimes the most recent information on an artist is close to a decade old or in some cases there isn't a bio at all. At least be happy there's even a bio in this case.
entropyevade r
Dear Mr. Pandora (Tim), please raise the quality of the bios. Some of these artists have absolutely terrible bios, case in point, the above. The sentence about being Dream Theater's third keyboardist is (as has been pointed out) tacked on, and does not discuss his merits in DT.
lmao @ rmohio .....no sh*t
rmohio
...and also the third Keyboardist for Dream Theater...li k e that's an afterthought ?
If you haven't already subscribe to Jordan's youtube channel! He's always posting beautiful improv. and funny stuff! Love that guy!
emr5378
JR ranks right up there with the finest prog keyboardist ever. He joining Dream Theater not only made them a better band but also he helped DT with the transition of loosing Portnoy...
Rudess is god on the keys. there is none better and i doubt there ever will be. he is perfection personified on the piano and the stuff he writes for DT is exceptional.
Terrific stuff!! Wow!!
Time Crunch is marvelous, and Rudess is a splendid DT ivory tickler no doubt!

:o)
Gifted musician and much hard work to hone these skills; what a combo!
i absolutely agree with the comments below, especially about this minimalist bio of Jordan, however don't blame Pandora! They just import the bios and album or song info from AllMusic.com as seen here - http://www.a l l m u s i c . c o m / a r t i s t / j o r d a n - r u d e s s - p 1 6 0 9 5 4 . There's a link on the pages to add corrections which could be used to request updates also.

Jordan is definitely a keyboard genius, but I do think Kevin Morse's keyboard style fit better into Dream Theater.

I was reading DREAM THEATER Song CHAT about a Dream Theater song and half the people said when Rudess join Dream theater I didn't like HIM I said are you crazy no other key board player can match Rudess in Dream Theaeter .....
WOW I have never heard this music before this is fantastic - I know thats steve morse on guitar without a doubt - this cat is an awesome keyboard player - rod morganstern on drums huh? - another monster musician - kind of sounds like the dregs no suprise - thanks pandora
smckenna30
Totally agree with poster Kevincaton - this is a pretty lame bio for such a recognized GENIOUS. An updated publicity photo would also be good. I have a lot of Jordan's material and have seen live many times. He is a fantastic, tallented keyboardist
kevincaton
The bio vastly understates Jordan's contribution s to Dream Theater. He is a virtuoso keyboardist and musical genius, and Dream Theater would not be where it is today without him.
Uh...Wow! This guy is pretty good. Never heard of him before now. Opus in cool Major!
I'm biased but i like every former Dixie Dreg. Great musicians who are very under appreciated and sadly unknown to the mainstream.

Jordan is exceptional. Great music.
For any DT fans who haven't yet picked up a copy of Jordan's "Notes on a Dream," there are no words to describe it... Quite possibly one of the most beautiful demonstratio n s of musical perfection to ever grace the planet.
nice

When JR is playing, he always catches my ear! Words like "adventurous , energetic, fun, progressive. . " would describe this guy's music.
This guy is truly incredible. And he's one of my MySpace friends as well.

The Guy can play the Ivory
seen rod morgenstein open for dream theater at aclub now defunk. didnt realize jordan was keys. they were fabulous. so was the theater.like band niacin too.
Anyone who doesn't think Jordan Rudess is a BAD A**, is a DICKHEAD!!
James is dead-on about having to be a musician to appreciate how difficult this music is to produce. The man is producing things that are new and fresh, so you're always gonna have ignorant dweebs pooh-poohing it, until it's been around long enough to be picked up and copied by others. Try just listening to the experience, identifying with the emotional content the musician is trying to convey, and if that don't work, change your station back to pop.
can you say 9 years old at Juilliard... n u f f sed...
herb...come on! "it's that it just isn't musical"... Sure your intitled to your oppinion, but seriously, This guy has forgotten more about music then you or i will ever know. and btw this is music we are talking about not a platter of twinkies...i t ' s okay to indulge...an d as far as the "emotionless " comment goes...are we listening to the same Jordan Rudess? 4NYC...???
Aesthetics or esthetics (also spelled æsthetics) is commonly known as the study of sensory or sensori-emot i o n a l values, sometimes called judgments of sentiment and taste. More broadly, scholars in the field define aesthetics as "critical reflection on art, culture and nature." Aesthetics is a subdisciplin e of axiology, a branch of philosophy, and is closely associated with the philosophy of art. Aesthetics studies NEW ways of seeing and of perceiving the world. Rudess does this!!!!!
Well i just heard him for the first time, "Time Crunch" was the song i believe, and it was an amazing instrumental . I will be checking out more of his work and if it is anything like what i just heard then 4 stars from me. If your a musician yourself you will probaly like it more than if you don't have a clue how hard it is to get something to sound that tight. As for the "electronic cuteness" i say more like ELECTRONIC KICKARSENESS , rock the freak on man.
hmm, I kinda agree with the "electronic cuteness" idea. it seems that in all of his recordings, he throws in some wacky noises just for the hell of it. Sometimes it adds to the song (like in insectsamong u s , that song was built upon quirkiness), but most of the time it detracts from the over-all aesthetic appeal.
You know, I just can't get into this guy. His technique is huge, but it's like he's never listened to a piece of serious music. He did a cover of Tarkus on The Road Home, and it just has no judgment whatsoever. Full of electronic cutenesses -- it's like he was trying out all the settings on a new synth. It's not that it wasn't faithful to the original (slavish copying would be its own failure); it's that it just isn't musical. His work with DT is better, because he can't indulge himself in
cool!
As with the rest of DT, Rudess is amazing.
pmankoda
kieth emerson, rick wakeman , joran rudess. YEP OK
I love Jordan, he's technically the best, and while some criticize his playing as emotionless, I disagree. He's not the most expressive, but there's plenty of emotion in his style.

So can we update the pic to a more modern one? He hasn't had that much hair in 10 years.
One word. Virtuosityis t i c a l i t y (adosius)
When's the next solo album? Jordan's music is great!
Jordan Rudess is one of my favorite keyboardists ever! So inovative! So unique!

Chicago - L.T.E. - Jordan, we missed you man!!! (Damn the cheap electronics)
Wizardry.

What can ya say? Spidey-finge r s is amazing! ! I Thank God Mike and John found him.
I remember this guy coming into Manny's when I worked there, pre-DT. My god had I known...this guy plays his A** off
