John Michael Talbot

At the peak of his success, John Michael Talbot was the best-selling male performer in the history of Christian music. Born in Oklahoma City in 1954, he began playing piano and drums at the age of six, and later moved on to banjo, guitar and dobro. In 1963, the family moved to Indianapolis; there, Talbot soon made his professional debut as a member of his brother Terry's teen pop band, the Quinchords. The Talbot brothers later co-founded the country-rock band Mason Proffit, which earned a cult following prior to its 1972 breakup; the siblings continued working together, however, with their increasing spirituality pushing them towards contemporary Christian pop. After recording an eponymous 1974 LP as the Talbot Brothers, both went their separate ways; John Michael soon signed to Sparrow, his sound mellowing to combine with his tenor vocals and classical guitar playing. Talbot's first solo LP, a self-titled effort, appeared in 1975; after 1977's The New Earth, he withdrew from performing to study Catholicism, with these new beliefs informing 1978's The Lord's Supper and its follow-up, Come to the Quiet. In the years to follow, Talbot's albums arrived fast and furious, and soon he was the best-selling artist in the history of Sparrow Records. In 1992, he founded his own label, Troubadour for the Lord. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi

Been listening to his music for more than 40 years. Liked it a lot then; love it now. It never gets old.
Great music, nice to listen to at work when all hell is breaking loose. It keeps me calm, cool and staying in touch with GOD.
John, God bless you and the other Christian artists. You are truly amazing. More power to you.
I love0 listening to his music. Since I was brought back to church. After my dad passed I couldn't go to church. I went to all these doctors. No one helped me. So I went to this priest at the church I used to go to when I was very young. Thank you God Father and my dad. I'm a different person. Thank you

I LOVE THIS STATION. FOR ME IT'S A FORM OF PRAYER.
Your music keeps me in touch with the Lord. Thank you Pandora.
Truly, his voice is a gift from our Saving Lord, and John's music leads me into prayer which is a response to the Living God. Thank you!

john 31 years ago i came into AA and it was through your music that i was able to turn my life over to god and live by his comandments i will always truly love you and your music in helping me have a happy and wonderfull life
John was a fundamentali s t christian. He saw its error ways of salvation by fairh alone invented by the false reformers of the 16 th century. God blessed John and continues to do so by feeding the poor and clothing the naked. John you have been a faithful servant to the true gospel. Faith without works is dead. God love you brother.
Your music evokes my childhood, listening to my mom cantor at masses with your music ringing in our ears. The song that sings to my heart is Create in Me...a clean heart Oh God... whenever I feel low...that always gives me strength.

John's music is a gift from God. Enjoy God's gift given to you to bring you closer to His Son, and to Him. God bless you John for your gift for us. I am closer to Him because of the gift He gave to you.oo

It is too bad he remains in the cult of the Roman Catholic religious organization instead of accepting the truth of the grace of God through faith alone in The LORD Jesus Christ. His work avails him nothing and is but filthy rags unless he is born-again . ( John 3:3; I Peter 1:23)KJB. carm.org
There are no artists that stir my heart in worship like John Michael Talbot, Michael Card, and Fernando Ortega. I praise our Heavenly Father for allowing them to share their awsome gifts.
His music speaks to me as much today as when I was young which covers a few decades.
How can I listen to whole albums as a station, because as much John Michael Talbot out there on my station by that name I get about 5 to 10% of him. I make stations to listen most particularly to hear that particular artist. And I have the same problem with all of my stations. WHY IS THAT? I am a paying customer and would be willing to pqy more for the ability to really make my station the way I want, without limits to stopping songs, I don't feel like list to get to what I want to hear
Gotta see him next week in Palos Verdes, CA because I just gotta!
We had booked John Michael for an even circa 1980. We were aware of his conversion to Christianity , but were caught off guard when arrived wearing a monk's robe and saying he had joined a monastery. His music was excellent.
John Michael's music gives a great sense of God and His presence and gives joy no matter whats happening in my life!!

I discovered John's music in the late 80's and found it refreshing and worshipful. It became part of the deepening of my faith. I still turn to it for retreat and renewal.
Great, prayerful musician!

I too cherish this gentil troubador for the Lord
I'll NEVER Forget the excitement of a teenaged girl in the Christian Community of God's Delight when she showed up with The Lord's Supper album and HAD to play it for all of us. I soon saw why she was so stunned!
Especially toward the beginning - as we pray for each other...
John Talbot and Michael Card are the best Christian recording artist's to me. There music always tell a story of Jesus, especially Michael

I was a huge fan of the underground group Mason Profitt in the late 60s/early 70s. I was terribly disappointed when they broke up. Years later, when i had quit listening to popular music, i began listening to an amazing Christian performer named John Michael Talbot, never guessing the link. A couple of years later i had also become delighted by his brother, Terry's, music, when one day it suddenly came back to me that that group i had once enjoyed so much were powered by brothers named John a

Thank you JMT for sharing your gifts and spreading The Faith...one note at a time. Bless you.

I, first, heard his music in the late 70's, in Colorado. He has taught me so much about worshipping the LORD GOD, through his music and the words, a lot of which are from the Psalms. Thank you, John Michael, for allowing the LORD to use you, in such a beautiful way, to lead us to the throne of GOD; so that we may worship HIM because HE is worthy!!!
I've loved his music since I first heard it in the early 70's. I saw "the Painter" here, but now it's gone. Will keep trying. I would love to actually see him in person, but have never heard of a concert or anything.

I love this man and his devotion to the Lord Jesus. He is one of the most inspiring artists I know. If you have never seen him in person, and get a chance, go, listen and be filled with the Lord you love.

I remember seeing him in an intimate setting in Florida, can't even tell you when, probably in the 80's? Awesome worship of our awesome God!

I was privileged to have taken my very young daughter to hear him in concert once in Dallas. In the midst of jeers at a Baptist University in Waco where she now attends, you felt his total focus on the One he loved.
Awesome sounds. Spirit filled.
