I was born in a small town & I can breath in a small town that's probably where they'll bury me!! Love John!! One of my Indiana cousins got to play in concert w/him. Sweet❌❤❌❤
The Scarecrow album was Mellencamp's Born in the U.S.A., and "Small Town" is one of the songs that most powerfully drives that identity and led me to become a dedicated fan. The flipside of the original 45 rpm single had a great accoustic version that I liked even better.
I love Mellencamp, but he shamelessly ripped of the chord progression of Pete Townshened's "Let my love open the door" on this one. Great song but Pete should get a songwriting credit.

Think he does a great job of capturing the essence of small town America!!!
