I'm gonna go ahead and agree with mjt here. John WAS indeed a prick. (Yea, yea...go ahead and crucify me) Nice people don't generally write songs about being insanely jealous or controlling or abusive etc. He was also a heroin junkie in his later life. Can't taint what the Beatles accomplished tho. Love 'em all
@beckyblue - he often was a manipulative abusive character in his personal relationships if you read any biographies of him. I don't think he is creating anyone here just talking about himself
Please, please. He starts whistling. This is an unreliable narrator. He is not writing in his voice. He is creating a manipulative , abusive character. This is John Lennon's great, dark sense of humor. "Watch out; look out, baby." See also: "Run For Your Life" from Rubber Soul. Anyone with me??

A Tragic loss, John, rest in Peace.

Ah, I love this song. I prefer Mother (such a sad song. Fun fact: the game series Mother was named such because the developer, who is Japanese, heard that song and it made him cry), but this song is still amazing.
sincere or sarcastic, this is the soft breakup line guys give the ladies. I've heard it. I've said some of these things. This song is deeply human . . . that's what makes it great.
Lennon's best solo recording. Beatiful production going hand-in-hand with heartfelt and earnest lyrics. You got to love Lennon's whistling. His whistling sounds better than most other singer's harmonica playing. Looking at you Bono. Maybe I'm just jealous. :)
