when he stepped away from the clash and the limelight,,, was when Joe Strummer was his best!

I am a Clash fan from waaaay back, just discovered his work with the Mescalero's a few months ago, Streecore is an amazing album, it needs to be listened to several times to appreciate fully. I can count on one hand the artists that I will sorely miss when they pass, Joe being one of them. He is a true human being in a world of plastic people.
Joe Strummer wasn't ahead of his time, he was a Genius of his Time!! He was the spokes-person for his and future Generations, he stood up for the working man, the working-class and like-minded people.
Joe never seemed comfortable as a solo, so it's odd to see his Pandora bio refer to 'Rock Art and the X-Ray Style' and 'Global A-Go-Go' as solo projects. Working with the Mescaleros gave him rein to record and release again -- and without their determination and effort, there'd be no 'Streetcore', a lovely epitaph. Not so solo.
Joe Strummer was my generation's John Lennon, both are unmatched songwriters, visionaries, world peace advocates and stood up against slavery, poverty, and hunger.....I truly miss you, Joe....
I saw the bio of Joe on the Sundance Channel Sun 1/25/09 and although I love the Clash and Joe, I never realized how powerful he was and how driven he was to change the world. Phenomenal band, music and person. He changed the rock world and we are all better for this...
