Joaquín Turina (1882-1949) was a Spanish composer who, along with Manuel de Falla and Isaac Albéniz, revitalized his nation's music in the early 20th century. Turina's student works reflected the late Romantic and Impressionist styles of his teachers in Paris, but he eventually turned his attention to Spanish themes and forms. Contributing to most classical genres, Turina wrote character pieces for piano as well as orchestral music depicting scenes of Spanish life. His best-known works are the Danzas fantásticas and the Sinfonía sevillana, and he also composed chamber music and a quantity of pieces for guitar. ~ Blair Sanderson, Rovi
