The older brother of the Temptations' lead singer David Ruffin, Jimmy enjoyed several huge hits himself in the mid-'60s for Berry Gordy's Soul label. Ruffin first signed with another Motown subsidiary, the short-lived Miracle, in 1961, but it was his convincing vocal on "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" that made him a star in 1966. He encored with "I've Passed This Way Before" and "Gonna Give Her All the Love I've Got." In 1970 he briefly teamed with David (by then a solo artist) as the Ruffin Brothers and cut a duet remake of Ben E. King's "Stand By Me." He staged an impressive comeback in 1980 on RSO Records with a major pop hit, "Hold On to My Love," that was produced by Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. ~ Bill Dahl, Rovi
When Motown was based in Detroit, their music, both lyric and music seemed very accessible to me. I used to pass Hitsville building on East Grand Blvd just for kicks knowing that is were the hits originate from.....glad they made it into a museum although I never visited.I will someday .
What becomes of the broken hearted. My favorite Jimmy Ruffin song. When singing talent was given out, Jimmy and David Ruffin must have gone back for seconds. Two very talented brothers.

All these years, I never knew this was David Ruffin's brother. I have always loved his music!
I was stationed in Goose Bay Labrador Canada, when I first heard this song, Love it.

I LOVE to here David and Jimmy sing together! That is the closest thing to the sound of heaven that one can get on earth. The humming like old country preachers moves my soul!
I remember hearing this song when I was just a kid. This is one of the classics of that era that still gives me the chills when I hear it now.

Am in TOTAL agreement with mcmcone's last comment .... and I NEVER would have thought in a million years that anyone could top Jimmy Ruffin on that one! Kudos to Joan as it has become MY favourite ever since seeing and hearing her perform it with the Funk Bros,

Joan Osborn does a killer version of Whats become of the Broken Hearted , if you can get it off The Shadows of Motown, it kicks.
An awesome song with a great vocal by one of my favorite artists of the 60's. The treatment does give you chills when you are a child of the 60's like I am.
