Jimmy Ruffin

The older brother of the Temptations' lead singer David Ruffin, Jimmy enjoyed several huge hits himself in the mid-'60s for Berry Gordy's Soul label. Ruffin first signed with another Motown subsidiary, the short-lived Miracle, in 1961, but it was his convincing vocal on "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" that made him a star in 1966. He encored with "I've Passed This Way Before" and "Gonna Give Her All the Love I've Got." In 1970 he briefly teamed with David (by then a solo artist) as the Ruffin Brothers and cut a duet remake of Ben E. King's "Stand By Me." He staged an impressive comeback in 1980 on RSO Records with a major pop hit, "Hold On to My Love," that was produced by Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees. ~ Bill Dahl, Rovi

I LOVE THIS I learn from it. (And I thought I knew it all) just kidding.
When Motown was based in Detroit, thei r music, both lyric and music seemed very accessible to me. I used to pass Hitsville building on East Grand Blvd just for kicks knowing that is were the hits originate from.....gla d they made it into a museum although I never visited.I will someday .
What becomes of the broken hearted. My favorite Jimmy Ruffin song. When singing talent was given out, Jimmy and David Ruffin must have gone back for seconds. Two very talented brothers.

It was David Ruffin NOT Jimmy Ruffin OR Mr. Rufus(my mistake) that we met at Fess Parker's in Santa Barbara. Jimmy Ruffins awesome though. Thank you.
I remember hearing this song when I was just a kid. This is one of the classics of that era that still gives me the chills when I hear it now.

Am in TOTAL agreement with mcmcone's last comment .... and I NEVER would have thought in a million years that anyone could top Jimmy Ruffin on that one!

Joan Osborn does a killer version of Whats become of the Broken Hearted , if you can get it off The Shadows of Motown, it kicks.
Try watching the movie Standing In The Shadows of Motown - It includes an interesting history - and outstanding live performance - of this great song.
