Jimmie's Chicken Shack

Jimmie's Chicken Shack blends funk-metal with elements of ska and reggae but also a surprising acoustic prowess. Lead vocalist Jimmy HaHa grew up in Maryland and played with a group named Ten Times Big for several years. After the band broke up, he hit the snowboarding circuit for two years but then began several acoustic jams with friends. HaHa recruited drummer Jim Chaney (from Ten Times Big), longtime friend Che' Lemon on bass, and guitarist Dave Dowling (aka Double D) to form Jimmie's Chicken Shack. Based in Annapolis, MD, the group formed their own Fowl Records and released Give Something Back. After selling tens of thousands of records around the Baltimore area, Jimmie's Chicken Shack signed to Elton John's Rocket Records and released their major-label debut, Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope. Still involved with their own label, however, the group also released The Original Recipe, a collection of early recordings, followed in 1999 by Bring Your Own Stereo. A five-year wait preceded the release of Re.present in 2004. ~ John Bush, Rovi

I was blessed to see these guys around 2000 after BYOS release here in Portland, OR and still can't believe how incredible of a show they put on! I only wish they could have put more releases out there and that the original lineup hadn't changed. Though the recordings after Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope were still good in their own way!

Shacks jams mixed with sometimes hilarious liracs simply put, rocks! They do not have a place in the simular artist catagory because there is no other simular artist. "Pushing the Salmanila Envelope" is on top. Rock on!

Remember when we all would go to the "S**t house" for show's or the " Bestgate a-go-go. I still have a flyer circa 1993 fromk 169 when the Shack played a show with "The Mutherfuckin ' S**t"... When Jimmy worked at The Moon cafe in Downtown Annapolis... that's when there was an unopossed force in Annapolis... the best group of friends from all walks spending time together. Them's were the days! Now not so much around Naptown...

A big fan here of Jimmie and a part of the local scene. Jimmie played in the club I bartended at for years and there is a much deeper story to their career many don't know involving disagreement s with a former label of what he wanted and what they wanted. If you get a chance to see them live, don't miss it. These guys can jam for hours!

Pushing the Salmanilla Envelope is absolutely fantastic, possibly one of my favorite albums of the 90's. Bring Your Own Stereo has a couple of good tunes, the rest is just meh-ish. I can not stand a single song they've recorded after that. Really a pity, they were a great, unique band for a record and a half.
